Thank you, hanheg, for your reply and awesome suggestion. I also switched the PC on & off for good measure (not! Just teasing).
Of course, I forgot to mention I had already tried reinstalling with no change or fix. All this php/html/css etc code errors, classed as an install error, was a bit of a basic fix recommendation. Very likely, there is some plugin or theme clash that will take some time & effort to find & fix.

Anyway, I have since restored the Classic Editor (via Plugins>add new…search & install …) and am able to post once more!

I very much doubt that my custom theme (my own design & coding based off animass theme, that I made years ago & legacy version still in WP Themes…) is capable of handling the new editor.

However, if anyone can shed some light/insight on the x2 php errors that I am still subject to, I would still be grateful for help to fix these.

BTW, I also installed WordPress on my PC via IIS localhost, as I will use that as my local site to redesign & code an updated new theme, to again go in the theme directory (animass update). Again, the FTP instruction for updating in localhost is very sketchy, as I remember I had to do some tweaking to get that to work on a previous PC several years ago! All these super nice updates, but many of the same basic WordPress issues appear to remain! Perhaps the developers, could try to take a little more notice and action on making WP more robust, before adding more bells & whistles, with even more potential for errors? Still, overall, I think they do try quite well and feel WordPress is quite a good blogging CMS!

    Thanks again and best wishes

    Hi guys
I have just been to my cpanel and renamed the plugin ultimate-social-media-icons to “FE_rename_ultimate-social-media-icons” and now my site displays again. Now I had better try and find the author/s of this plugin and let them know of this event.

I do not understand how this happened as the last time I looked at the site it was fine. That was many weeks ago. Does WordPress and plugins automatically update now?
Whatever, the WP & plugin developers should not allow this error to occur in the first place. Many years ago I did some WP coding (WP theme author) and maybe I should get back to it and try and sort this crappy behaviour out! Apologies for the rant but this should be allowed for the otherwise fine WP CMS and some clever WP developer/coder should work on this….. Best wishes ??

Thanks for your helpful reply Mark.

I have renamed the file and it displays properly now.
I left a comment about this on my post:
    07/04/17
I asked in WP forum for help with this media library image not displaying and
received a helpful reply from a mark chaves, who suggested renaming the file also…Thanks Mark.
So I tried renaming my file to remove an underscore and trailing periods
and the renamed image uploaded successfully!
(rpd_N Mandela Do not judge me by success but…png, renamed to, N Mandela Do not judge me by success but.png and this renamed image uploaded successfully).
See this image of the media library (this shows the uploaded image thumbnail alongside the non uploaded, non displaying image thumbnail).
WP media library N Mandela image upload issue

Issue fixed…so my advice is same as Mark’s..try not to use extra characters in image file names! I do not know the exact image upload naming rules but this seemed to be the problem.
    Happy WordPressing!

Hi Karen…I see your problem but have no idea why the latest WP version has screwed your CSS layout here…I am running the latest WP version as are loads of others with no problem with the login screen. Probably some plugin on site breaking it, though you say disabling plugins didn’t fix it?
Your login page code lists S2 member plugin javascript code-is this breaking the page css?
Whatever the problem, as long as you can still access your dashboard then this positioning issue is not such a big issue. I haven’t poked around with this code myself, so I can’t help you. However if you want to DIY, here is the first link I found which could be useful:
    https://colorburned.com

Sorry I cannot help more and goodluck fixing this.Regards

    Hi Nick
Thanks again for your helpful reply about the “Leave comment” box/form.
I didn’t realise it wouldn’t work on a default home page. I guess I could always makeup a custom homepage template and make that a static homepage.
I don’t think anyone else knows this on the StudioPress forum as I posted for help with this there but didn’t get a correct answer (quite frustrating but all is good now I know why it wasn’t working and it does work on the post page as you said).
Many thanks for your fine help.
    Best wishes

    Hi Nick
    Thanks for your helpful reply.
Adding this css code to Backcountry stylesheet has fixed this indeed.
Strange that the different colour style for green has done this.
Why couldn’t the different colour theme simply be a matter of changing the style hex colour code. Nevermind it’s of no great matter.

This is unrelated, but I don’t suppose you might know why “Leave comment” box is not displaying after the post on the site?
Again this works on the other site but not with accidentaldiscovery.co.uk and I cannot understand why not?

    Best wishes

Personally I am not using this theme on any websites yet. I like the theme for the one page design and the YouTube video section embed and slider and I have spent some time looking at full page YouTube video backgrounds and the YouTube IFrame API and have made my own YouTube custom controls…see my blog post @ https://de.richard-dickinson.com/2015/07/11/webdev-and-youtube-api/

My first thought is that replacing the text and making your own menus should be straightforward but that probably doesn’t help you! If you have a more specific issue that you cannot fix let me know, and it would be helpful to have a link to your site to see what your site is like and assess it. If you are going to do theme changes (eg changing styles) you should consider making a child theme so you can keep your customisations when the theme is updated (but this isn’t needed when editing the section content or menus). Goodluck! ??

Right…I have fixed my issue with this now.

The problem concerned WP options Settings>reading setting. I had this displaying as a static page but with a front page selected.
The fix was simply to remove the front page selection (leave it at -select-).The posts page is set to blog as shown in the docs.

Now the homepage displays as the demo and I can now hopefully edit it in the Onetone options as I need. This was a simple but frustrating problem but is fixed now and I hope this explanation can help anyone else who gets stuck with this.

I have the same problem also.
I installed the theme and it displays as a page/post layout and not as the demo layout and I cannot get it to display in a similar way to the one page demo format.
I have tried following the documentation but with no success.
I don’t know why I cannot set this up as per demo/preview and am grateful for help to do this, thanks

    Update:
I’ve just added a Twitter icon (now Facebook and Twitter icons) and notice these display as I want on the site blog page and are not displaying the same om my site custom landing page (which is the front page). Why is the display position different on these 2 pages (theme is my own Genesis Child theme! My first attempt at a StudioPress Genesis child theme based on Trestle child theme framework).

    Hi muddg
I am very well aware of the fact that few Windows users use IIS localhost for WordPress! When I first started using a localhost server many years ago the only information available was for an XAMPP set up which I ran very successfully for a while. XAMPP will work well on both Windows and Linux.
Several years ago I made a conscious decision to try and run Windows software on my Windows PC’s and I have been using IIS for a long time now but very few other people do this and there is little to no proper guidance on this either on this forum or even on Windows/MS forums!
There is also a Windows option of running WordPress with WEBPI WordPress via IIS Express. I have tried this but it is possible to get conflicts using both systems(well I found so when I tried a few years back). The WEBPI products may use a different PHP version and have other dependencies/issues!

It appears to me that more people prefer Apache server than IIS and I cannot understand why Microsoft and WordPress do not make these products and integration better and easier to use for the average PC user! Sad but that seems to be how it is!

Perhaps us Windows IIS WordPress users should pool our knowledge and make our experiences more widely known both on this forum and elsewhere? Best wishes ??

    Thanks for your reply bemdesign,
In this case it is likely to be an IIS issue I would think but not for the other cases from the link I gave.Something is not right with WordPress for this to happen and hopefully some genius WordPress webdev admin can check this bad buggy behaviour out and fix it! Meantime, if it keeps working with no other issues that’ll do for now… ??

I’ve solved this by adding this line of code to wp-config.php file:
    define(‘CONCATENATE_SCRIPTS’, false );

I found this advice on the support forum @:

    https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/wordpress-35-add-new-media-not-working?replies=19

There is no explanation of what this line does or why it is missing/needed in the wp-cnfig file but it has worked and allowed media files to be uploaded?

As the phrase goes “What goes?!”..what is going on here WordPress?
