In reply to: Nav bar pages issue in my themeHi
I have spent the majority of today trying unsuccesfully to get this nav bar issue fixed. I appear to have gone backwards in development in the process as my intro section image & page background image are now not displaying! I tried using full address references for image sources but to no avail! My somewhat basic & hapless theme (but it is based on html5…)can be seen on onlinewpthemetest (My WP onlinethemetestblog site).
I had to take it off my active chess blog at https://www.chessat.richard-dickinson.com and I have a free theme in place there for now.
The navbar does not display site pages properly as tested on my full chess blog but this is not seen/does not show on my theme test blog site.A few days ago I thought I was quite close to having a functioning theme but after still struggling with it today I am not so sure now.
So again I would really appreciate some more help to get this new theme of mine fixed and working satisfactorily. I look forward to some reply, many thanksForum: Themes and Templates

In reply to: Help with my new WordPress themeHi again
I have edited my wordpress theme some more now and it is getting a bit better. Hopefully it has passed W3C html validation. Please look at it at https://www.richard-dickinson.com
I would like the footer to span the entire page width. How do I do that?
I am most grateful for helpful comment on how I can edit this theme/on WordPress theme editing so I can make this theme to a good WordPress theme standard. Please understand I am new to making WP themes and am just learning about theme development and want to develop my learning and practice.

In reply to: Help with my new WordPress themeI do not understand-I ran my index.htm file through the validator & used Tidy to fix the errors. This gives :
[Code moderated as per the Forum Rules. Please use the pastebin]
The doc type is still transitional and now the footer doesn’t display properly using the original style.css (code shown in previous post).

In reply to: Help with my new WordPress themeHi
Strange thing here: I use Xampp on my Vista computer to develop with and in my Xampp localhost WordPressMU install I can access the theme editor in my new theme but I do not have a theme editor option in my live hostgator server install of my new theme!
I wonder why?Anyway now I will look at that sidebar code. I am still keen for advice on how to develop and edit my new theme and would appreciate helpful feedback/comments. Many thanks

In reply to: Customizing theme header text with image issueHi
Thanks for your good advice & links on how to understand CSS & PHP better. When this style was added to my stylesheet I am not sure how it worked as nothing new was added to html layout -the only difference being that I had added the new WordPress php code to link to the new header image in the header.php..
There is a lot to learn & understand!
Many thanksForum: Themes and Templates
In reply to: Customizing theme header text with image issueHi alchymyth
That has worked nicely-thanks very much!
I don’t understand how it worked though as this appears to be a new CSS attribute that has been added to the stylesheet (ie #header a img)?I am grateful if you can explain how/why it works but very glad it does work! I wish I understood CSS and php better!

In reply to: Make header image link to another pageHi bigchezmtkg
Just replying to your message on my post about custom header image issue. I have to say I am new to WordPress & it has taken me a little while to get the right coding to add my image header (in place of header text) and get it clickable. I sorted the clickable bit with code in my header.php so I guess you need to edit that to get yours clickable as a link to the relevant homepage.
Here is the relevant part of my header.php code that makes the image clickable. If you do something similar in your header.php you should get it working!
<div id="header"> <a href="<?php bloginfo('url'); ?>"> <img src="https://learningthepianohelpsite.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/learningthepianohelpsite.jpeg" alt="<?php bloginfo('name'); ?>" /> </a> <br /><br /><br /><br /> <p class="description"> <?php bloginfo('description'); ?></p> </div><!--end header-->
I hope this helps you (if it does or doesn’t(!?) I would appreciate your feedback!). Goodluck and best wishes

In reply to: Customizing theme header text with image issueHi
Yes- the logo is positioned at the top of the header presently but I want to know how to position it within the header (any arbitary distance away away from top/bottom/sides of header-so I can control where it goes).
Hope this is clear
