In reply to: [Check and Enable GZIP compression] Problems with the pluginHi Ramon,
Thanks for your problem. Is this all the time? Or just sometimes? Were you able to activate GZIP compression?

In reply to: [Check and Enable GZIP compression] Strange characters after plugin updateHi dokenquist,
It looks like a double gzip compression issue indeed. Could you show me your .htaccess file? And does the gzip compression plugin work if you disable W3? (just to test)

In reply to: [Check and Enable GZIP compression] It depends on plugin author's site…Hi Dymskiy,
It is correct that the plugin runs the check on our website. That is also mentioned in the summary. Too bad it’s a show stopper for you and you give our plugin 1 star.
From the summary:
“This plugin checks if your WordPress site has GZIP compression enabled. Every time you run this check, your domain name will be sent to https://checkgzipcompression.com. We won’t sent any other private information.”

In reply to: [Check and Enable GZIP compression] Your plugin crushed my siteHi Judy,
That sounds quite strange, because GZIP compression by PHP is done on the fly, so there are no gzip files created on the server. I suspect it has something to do with the combination or our plugin and a server configuration (probably caching). But I’m afraid I can’t help you further with that. Maybe your hosting provider can support you. Good luck!

In reply to: [Check and Enable GZIP compression] Your plugin crushed my siteHi Judy,
Thanks for the reply. To prevent this from happening in the future, what other plugins did you have to remove before the site started working again?

In reply to: [Check and Enable GZIP compression] Gzip remains disabledThanks supajiggi for the update. Too bad your hosting doesn’t support compression. I’m currently working on a new update which checks a few methods (including ob_gzhandler).
I’ll close this topic now. Thanks for the support!

In reply to: [Check and Enable GZIP compression] Your plugin crushed my siteHi Judy,
Too bad to hear that you lost some work. But good to hear that the site is up again. Just to check, did you use the preview mode to make sure that GZIP compression was working? Or did you enable it right away? (for further updates)

In reply to: [Check and Enable GZIP compression] Your plugin crushed my siteHi Judy,
It seems that your host does not support GZIP compression. Did you use the preview functionality to check if GZIP was working on your site?
And are you sure you deleted the plugin? Because that should fix the issue (if the plugin is not present, it cannot do anything to your wordpress installation). It could be that you have another caching plugin activated that causes the issue.
I would recommend disabling all unnecessary plugins to see if that solves the issues.

We’ll probably add that feature in the next version

In reply to: [Check and Enable GZIP compression] Does your plugin pre-compress files?Hi agitkid,
I’m afraid not. We mainly focus on the checking of gzip compression. Furthermore, when enabled through our plugin, this is done on php level. So not on server level. I would suggest if you have the knowledge to use server level compression because that is more fail safe.
I don’t know much about ngix, but I suspect you should work with expire headers. Might be possible in the w3 total cache plugin.
Good luck!Forum: Plugins
In reply to: [Check and Enable GZIP compression] strange charactersHello anwarsubhi,
This could mean that gzip compression is not supported in this way on your server. For this reason I added the preview option, did you see that?
In the next version we’ll add some more possibilities for checking and enabling gzip compression

In reply to: [Check and Enable GZIP compression] Gzip remains disabled@jmulder, Thanks for the feedback. I’ll probably build a check in the next version which avoids confusing when GZIP compression is not available on the server.
@supajiggi
That’s strange, did you use this .htaccess snippet? https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Output_Compression
