In the Customizer’s Home Section, make sure you didn’t check Hide Gallery Section, and make sure your Number of Photos isn’t 0.
Also, when you add each image, you do it by creating a post. In each post, you need to set the Format (see right column in the edit post screen) by checking Image, instead of Standard.
This threw me for a time. Hope that solves your problem.
