I did a roll back to 4.2.4 and it works again.

Before I did so, I did try the default Twenty-something theme and the Gallery did work. So I guess it has to do with my theme. Contacted the developer / designer and hope they can fix it.

Did deactivate those as well. No effect.

Do i need to roll back to 4.2.x?

Perhaps I should mention that the gallery does show in the WYSIWYG editor in WordPress, but not in preview or published mode.

Solved! I found out that Jetpack was the evil plugin that caused empty content when sharing on FB, Linkedin etc. My RSS feeds also only showed titles instead of content. I disabled and deleted this plugin, unfortunately, because some things were quite useful.
