Thanks so much for checking it out, jayseae. Actually, I’m still having a problem, as I’m not getting them to roll-over at all in Chrome or Firefox, though they work fine in IE. But the fact that you can see them roll over is a relief to me because it means that there must be something with my own browser settings that are disabling them. Hopefully I will figure it out without too much of a problem.

Oh, thanks so much, fonglh. It turns out there were one too many databases within the server, and I was looking at the wrong one… so pointing that out made me look a little harder and it turns out the wp_options table WAS pointing to the wrong blog.

Sometimes I feel a little dense, but this blog stuff is a new language for me.

I’m really stuck here. Does anyone have any ideas why, when I attempt to log into either https://www.blog.pure-possibility.com, or https://blog.workplaceevolution.com, I end up getting to the same login? (the latter switches to the pure-possibility blog’s login once I try to fill in the login details). Hmmmm…

Thanks so much, wpmaster and Rich, for your quick responses. I’m still muddling through reviews of both open source and wp plugins, as I haven’t decided yet whether I prefer continuing in html (which I’m more comfortable with), or completely switching to wordpress …mostly because I want to set up clients to work independent from me in the future, since I am also an artist who needs time to create my own work instead of being chained to a computer every day. (Don’t get me wrong, web devs, it’s a creative use of one’s brain cells, but the eyes and body need a break!)

If I stay with html sites, it’s not a bad idea to go with eCart 5 (the updated version of 4) since it integrates into Dreamweaver. However, if I need to teach my clients how to use it, they will have to purchase both DW and eCart… which is beyond most artist’s budget and technical abilities. I’d also prefer a solution that offers paypal plus other options.

I hadn’t even thought of migrating my html pages into a blog, and that might be an option for getting the design to layout just the way I want it. However, it’s counter-productive in terms of seo since I use tables for my layout, which is not as seo-friendly as php programming.

I’m starting to think that I should either combine nextGen gallery (which might help me with the layout solution) with eStore plugin. Wondering if anyone has experience with this… or examples of good artist sites, since I can’t find a showcase for it.

I’m really liking the look of some YAK sites I’ve seen… has the layout features I’m looking for, though I’m wondering if it’s a headache to set up. Anyone with experience with these or other solutions for artist’s ecommerce sites??

    Thanks again for your replies.

I’m looking for exactly the same thing. I see this was posted 7 months ago, but can the topic be revived? Did you find anything to suit your purpose, kelliswan?

Ps: the blog page was not the home page (intro is the home page). Thanks anyway!

I figured this out. It was the old blog folder (which I couldn’t delete on the server) that was causing the problem. I was able to fix this by renaming the folder “oldblog” so that when someone tried to go to the blog link it wouldn’t be trying to access that folder.

    wordpress is tricky!

I couldn’t find an instance of this in either the header.php or sidebar. php. The closest thing I found were some instances of:

    <a href=”<?php echo get_option(‘home’);

but I don’t know what to do with this. To prevent the navigation from doubling the “home” link do I replace ‘home’ with another page name… or?

Sorry, I’m an html gal and can’t make much sense of what are probably simple answers.

I just want to chime in that Figaro’s tutorials are invaluable for non-techie persons like myself. He speaks in plain english and shows you how to do things step by step. I’ve never found ANYTHING in this forums more helpful. I spent about 3 days trying to figure out how to move my blog from one domain/server to another, and kept running into problems. Luckily, I found Figaro’s link before the moderator removed it. In the name of keeping this information free, I’m reposting a link to his site. If someone removes it, I’d appreciate a clear explanation why MichaelH’s links are allowed, but not Figaro’s.

Site map to Figaro’s vids can be found here:

I think I’ve resolved this now. Sorry to sound like a dufus before. I just realized that I have an incomplete installation of the blog on my pc, but that my most recent back-up was on my mac, which had all the upload files…. so I’m uploading them now and images are coming up!

    Thanks for your help, everyone!!

I guess I’m still confused. Maybe I didn’t have a complete backup of her blog files. I did upload all of the blog files that I had, into the correct directory. I didn’t have an uploads folder within the wp-content folder. I thought that by uploading the database.sql folder it created one on the server (my assumption for this is that I have a working blog on my site eyeconart.net, and I just checked all of my local files and also have no uploads folder, but there are hundreds of photos within my blog that must be within such a folder on my remote site).

    (@robin-urton)

I guess the client has a lot of work to do. I don’t have the photos. So once she uploads the photos, she still needs to create a new path? Doesn’t wordpress create a path if she’s uploading them within a blog post?

    Thanks for your continued support

I just looked within the blog posts to see an example of image location: <a href=”https://patiannestevenson.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/jalouse-page-copy.jpg”

Then, when I look into my ftp files, I see that the remote server has only one file within the wp-content/uploads/2009/09, which is “catsrocksql.import”

Any ideas how to get the images back?… or is it too late (she just canceled hosting on the other server, so I have no access to the database anymore).

    Thread Starter Robin Urton

    (@robin-urton)

Thank you! That’s a big step forward because the posts are now back! Only problem is that all the pictures are missing. And she had a LOT pictures on this blog, so I hope we can get them back without her having to manually upload each one to each post. Any ideas on that??

btw, when I clicked “SQL” tab, it said I could either “Run SQL query on the database”, giving me a place to paste the text, OR browse for the file. I chose to browse for the database.sql file, then for the compression, I chose “Autodetect” (other options wer none, gzipped, and bzipped). Could it be possible that I chose the wrong compression mode?

Yes, I have a database (the blog is now showing up at https://www.patiannestevenson.com/blog , which wouldn’t be possible if there wasn’t a database.

When I go to phpMyAdmin, these are the tabs that show up at the top of the page: structure, SQL, Export, Search, Query, and Operations. Underneath that are the 10 tables that are included in my database. There is no Import tab anywhere on the page.
