any luck @arnaudfischer ? – I still haven’t found one.there must be some technical reason why it isn’t more widespread.

Darn – no one here knows? is there any other place I could post this where someone might know? This is so obvious that if it does not exist there must be some technical reason why, however I have used thumbnail generation programs that seemed to do something similar. I am at a total dead end so if anyone knows a place where i can at least continue searching I would appreciate it. i really need this.

Thank you @crouchingbruin but @joyously is correct – I am looking for the opposite of that. I want to be able to make a post on my wordpress blog with a link, and have it include the title of the link and an extracted image from that link below the post – just like almost every social network does. Surely that must exist but I have even asked a WordPress consultant and he didn’t know. I hope I am communicating this correctly because it seems really basic. If anyone knows where to look I would really appreciate it.

Hi JNashHawkins – that does look cool, and no problem writing the summary myself, but what I really need it to bring the image and title into the post and then I can write a little blub as the summary or commentary. Here is an example from my Twitter feel chosen almost at random: twitter.com/PsychToday/status/1163590717735915520?s=20

See what that does? It brings in the title, subtitle and image, into the post which is just a little blurb. Not clear from the description that yours does that, though it does look like a cool plugin to use for other reasons. There must be something that does this though.

Anyone have any ideas on this? I’m stuck.

    Hi Gangleri,

I hadn’t even thought of that, and was surprised to find the admin side worked just fine. I didn’t realize I would lose my theme, so as soon as I activated another one it worked fine. Thanks for your help.

Does anyone know how to do this? It doesn’t seem like it should be that big of a deal, but this thread has already been censored, To reiterate the censored portion, I am not looking for an unsolicited critique of my website, nor am I looking for some debate about frames- I thought people were over that about 10 years ago. Apparently the people who can dish it out, can’t take it.

All I would just like to know is how to specify “_top” in the .htaccess file so I can try this approach and see if it works.

    Thank you

Hi, I posted elsewhere about this, but I have the exact same “feeds not found” error- even for feeds I know work, and have not been able to get this plug-in to work at all. Any suggestions?

    Forum: Plugins
In reply to: RSS … Syndication?

Hi, I am trying to learn more about this as I cannot get FeedWordPress to work. Here is what I want to do: I want to take several RSS feeds and consolidate them, but have the ability to edit them and delete some of them. This is for an application involving “data” more than “news” so a re-edit is appropriate.

I also want to be able to add new fields to each post (possibly this can be done with categories and tags). Then I want to be able to “republish” this consolidated and edited feed, to a new feed which I control. Possibly this new feed is “private” and only available to registered users, or maybe it is public- I haven’t decided yet.

Could WordPress be used for this application? I’m thinking there must be some way to do this and would like recommendations as to what plugins, techniques, etc I should use

If a completely different tool would be better for this, I would like to know that as well. If “Planet” does not allow you to archive the post as SomePriest says, than that would not do. I also tried to do this using Yahoo Pipes a while back and didn’t get anywhere there either.

    Any ideas?

OK, the next thing I have tried is BDP RSS Aggregator. It seems to be a very sophisticated tool, but from reading the documentation, it seems the feeds can only be in a sidebar or an special page- not in the blog itself. (if I am not correct about this, please let me know).

Again, I would like to have the output from several feeds go into the regular WordPress draft posts, where I could edit or delete, and categorize them, and the re-publish (please no lecture on copyrights that have killed other threads on this topic- I have permission to use this material). Does anyone know how to do this- or at least what plugin would work best? This MUST be a common request.

Does anyone have any idea on this? The best tool for feed aggregation and editing/syndication? I know this must be a common issue/application, and have been reading some of the older threads. The most common solution seems to be FeedWordPress, however when I go to RadGeek’s site to download it I get a time out message- maybe his server is down. lhttps://projects.radgeek.com/feedwordpress

Is there another place to download this, and are there other plugins I should be looking at?

    Thanks

    Hi HandySolo,

I was almost ready to come here and give you a virtual high five, but I couldn’t get it to work. I followed the instructions on that link and put “Options +FollowSymlinks” in the .htacess file of the _vti_bin, _vti_adm, and _vti_aut directories (actually, it was already there). Then I modifed the root .htaccess file with the WordPress code. The text of this file is below and the perma-links work great at https://www.caltrade.com/news but, you guessed it, Frontpage publishing no longer works. In the code below, I put the WordPress code at the bottom, but have tried a few different permutations nothing seems to work. I hope I am not condemned to a life of constantly cutting and pasting this code to make my Frontpage publishing work. Does anyone know if there is some way I can tweek this code to make it work, or if there is some other solution.

    Thank you

    Rob

I never said Moshu didn’t try to be helpful- he did at least address my “why was my post deleted” question.

“Um…*no one* provided you a link to Google to find themes.”

Um- Yes, that is exactly what Whooami did- apparently just to be rude.

“You can search for the theme you want by columns, color, even all the way to rounded corners and left or right sidebar.”

I think part of the problem here is that people simply don’t read the posts. As I have already said, I looked at HUNDREDS of themes- in fact every single 2 column theme in the directory. I only found one that fit the criteria and just wanted to see if anyone had any other recommendations- I still don’t understand what is so horrible about that.

“Would you get upset if someone suggested a theme you hated? I would think that you probably would – someone suggesting a crappy site.”

Well you are wrong again. That may be the culture of this forum but why would anyone ask for a theme recommendation and then get “upset” if you didn’t like the theme they recommended? Even this would be useful information as it would suggest that the one I found might really be the best or only choice.

“The themes repository is actually very easy to use, and it gives you lots of options. (Did you even look at it yet, or just assume* it was some sort of Google link?)”

Where did you think I found the hundreds of themes you mentioned in your next sentence? Once again, YES, I have gone through the directory.

“We also have lives. We try our best to help. We do not like to offer handouts. Especially when the person asking decides to take the answers given him and attempt to shove them up his helper’s ass.”

Actually I have reached the opposite conclusion- in addition to being one of the rudest forums I have ever seen, some people seem here to have LOTS of time on their hands. All I was looking for was for someone to take a quick look at what I am doing and say “Rob, have you checked this theme out” – it would have taken FAR less time then the insulting posts here- but again some people apparently get off on that.

EXACTLY what is it about this board where some think it is important to be RUDE to new people? Does that get you guys off or something?

The responses I have been given here so far are the equivalent of saying “you should look it up on the Internet”. I didn’t care for Blogger technology, but at least the people on their forums are cool and tried to be helpful. I’m have read through many, many posts here and have found DOZENS of posts of people asking for recommendations on themes. As I learn more should I act like you two and tell them they should “do more research”- or even be a real ass and post a link to Google for them?

If there is anyone who uses this forum who is NOT a complete jerk, please note that I HAVE looked through hundreds of themes looking for one with an extra wide right sidebar that could fit a 250 x 250 ad. So far I have only found one and have put it on the blog I am developing at https://www.caltrade.com/news. It is not bad, but the ads barely fit in the space without even an extra pixel. All I was asking for was if anyone knew of one that might work better- I had no idea that was such a horrible thing to do here.

p.s. Whooami- in addition to being a rude person, you are also factually wrong- WordPress 2.2 – which wasn’t even there when I posted this request, does automate many of the tags and widgets- if you had bothered reading the thread you would have known that was exactly what I was looking for.

    (@robmarkg)

    Moshu,

Why do you keep shutting down posts with these kinds of comments? i.e. “You will just have to learn the scripting language” – which I found out the next day wasn’t true (with the release of 2.2). Now “it is just a matter of personal tastes” – I put very specific request for the kind of theme I needed, i.e. the extra wide right margin, etc, and was eagerly seeing what recommendations people might have. Are you trying to keep new people off your board for some reason?

    Rob
