I just use WordPress on two different sites, am not a developer, and know almost nothing about the structure or internals other than what I can see through the UI, so much of your response went over my head :-). The plugin suggestion is a good one and I have already applied it.

Thanks. I don’t have the resources to install anything locally and would prefer using some sort of test site, which is what I had been picturing. I do have site backup and restore, so I’m less concerned about trashing my original theme than back when I was first learning WP.

I’ll check out wpsandbox.net, but installing and migrating to/from my own test site might be best. Any particular tutorials on doing that anywhere? As I said, I am able to set up a separate WP installation using a temporary subdomain at any time, but then I’d need to clone my existing site to that location — with database changes to match — and then at least get the theme customizations from there if/when I decide to go live.

Steve, isn’t “serialized data” still just a long string of text in the .SQL file that could be changed by any code-oriented text editor? I did the export and looked at it in the Visual Studio Code Editor and it found 793 instances of the URL in what I have so far. Seems like the fact that it’s embedded in a longer string wouldn’t matter to the editor.

Also, the site is not changing servers — just pointing a different domain to it — so this will be done in place. I’ve found a couple of plug-ins that are supposed to make the changes directly in the database, but thought that using export-modify-import might work just as well.

Thanks for responding. I was mainly trying to understand more about how things work, but will probably just play around with the settings to see the effects that they have.

Thank you! I also just figured out that I can probably do the same thing with CSS border-image support, but I’ll check out the Gutenberg Addons as well.

Thanks for the quick response, Steve, but it looks like I may have jumped the gun. The problem seems to only be in the most recent three posts that I made, which were naturally the first ones I looked at after the import! The older posts appear to be OK, so I can just edit the offending posts as necessary.
