Crisis over for now — apparently not all of my theme php files had the the same * Template Name: foo. I have since been able to widgetize my static home page.

I knew I was overlooking something…thanks to you, I can now use the file as a guestbook, which will give me one less plug-in to babysit. Thanks again!

The Fast And Secure Contact Form I installed worked on the first attempt. I’ve used Contact Form 7 and Simple Captcha several times before, but always on WP sites located in a root directory. I guess I threw them a curve by trying to install them on a site that’s actually an add-on domain.

I feel a little disloyal, but if I hadn’t made a similar decision a few years ago, I probably wouldn’t be here. I couldn’t install Gray Matter, TrueType or WordPress through my old Web hosting service because they didn’t have the right versions of Perl or PHP. Though they’d served me well for nearly a decade, I had to come to terms with the fact that I no longer had the right version of a Web hosting service!

Thanks for your attention, help and interest anyway.

Here’s the latest: With /subDirectory/wp-contents/uploads/ in Settings/Miscellaneous (AND my config.php file), I can now get a text field but no CAPCHTA image. Am I getting warmer?

I found the problem–an index.html page was accidentally uploaded into the root folder through Dreamweaver. But since my site is “homemade,” I’m going to check out the Template article anyway. Thanks, again!

Are you saying that when you click on the article title on the home page, you get a page with the post? When I click on it, I get my home page again. The problem must be on my end, then–better re-install my database. I’ll keep you posted–thanks.

Because I’ve recently changed domains and e-mail addresses, I decided to try getting a new WordPress.com account and API key. I activated them via my e-mail, and Askimet says my new key is valid. But with Stats, I’ve progressed from going nowhere to going in circles.

It says my new key is belongs to my new account. But it also says
The WordPress.com Stats Plugin is not working because it needs to be linked to a WordPress.com account. When I click on the button to “Add new blog to my account,” it tells me the key is missing. I re-enter the key, and I’m taken right back to the page I was on, asking me to either enter another key if it doesn’t match my WP.com account name or add a new blog to my account!

Hmm, it looks like all of us have our WP files inside a folder–could that be part of the problem?

You see, I have a WP web site and it works perfectly–I’m trying to set one up on my boss’ web server. But my WP files are directly in the root folder–ours are not, and we’re having problems. Coincidence?

The tech support page suggested that I replaced ‘localhost’ with ‘[email protected]’, but that doesn’t work. They wrote that I should try ‘localhost’ again, but that doesn’t work, either.

One last question–in the interests of their getting it right on the first attempt, what should I tell them needs to be done? You’re welcome to be as technical as you like!
