In reply to: how to make only titles appear on my blog[This is a help forum for WordPress not Blogger… ]
………………
Fair enough. I guess I was not thinking clearly. i searched the web for blogger help and what floated at the top was what looked like an official blogger help site, but it was not. finally, it dawned on me: in went to the blogger site and clicked on ‘help’. there! that was the help center i was looking for, which is below for anyone one else who might find themselves wandering around.Forum: Everything else WordPress
In reply to: [ GIMP from Source | GIMP for Unix | GIMP for Windowswhat would i do without the help that i get here?
Thanks…i will try it right now!
doodlebee: thanks for the input, but i am still not quite sure that i can play music even if other’s can’t download it. i am just weary of being sued, etc. i will continue to inquire about it a little further.
i liked readng ‘about’ you. you seem to be generous with helping others. i started learning html, css in recent weeks and i am still learning … not so easy even for someone like me who used to code (cobol) for a living.
Dgold: thanks for the suggestions. my blog is not for profit, except that i might eventually list some books of interest and gain some dimes from amazon.
oh, boy, i shoulda first asked the question on a forum like this one before proceeding to save hundreds of pictures of the katrina victims. i have already saved the pictures, in which case i don’t know who to ask permission from or give credit to. but there was a time when i asked for permission on a particular picture and i never received a response back, which probably means ‘no’.
what about the case of playing background music using a track which i paid for? i doubt that my payment of $1 to buy the track would entitle me to have the license to play it online, but i wanted to know if anyone had done it and what are the procedures to obtaining permission.
mucho gracias!
since posting my message last night (pacific time), i am delighted that so many have responded with very useful info. i will now be looking into the links for the graphics software provided by you kind folks out there. perhaps there is hope for someone like me who has never used a graphics software before. maybe a year from now, i will be on the other end helping a newbie along.
i will be checking this thread again to see if there are more guides, advice.
i am grateful to you all for spending the time to share your knowledge.

‘Instead of moaning the living hell outta people here’ ? ?
ihk: in fact, my posts are always gracious and always grateful to whoever responds. those who respond are out there just to be helpful and i am always grateful. in fact, i did find good info in your response, (notwithstanding your barking!) and what am i moaning about? $600 for photoshop just to post pics in my blog seems to me a heap of money. of course, if i were a web designer, that is another matter. i will now look into GIMP. you must also understand that i am concerned about the learning curve, i don’t want to spend precious time learning one graphic software and having to migrate to another one and spend fresh precious time learning a new one. i just want to learn one and start blogging away.
i do use Firefox, but i am not aware about ‘ad-barring functions’. i will look into it.
your post of 2006-06-24 09:04:21 was great…you seem to know your stuff pretty well. i am certainly a newbie.
thanks.
thanks for that link, moshu => (google.ca/search?q=free+image+editor)
some of the free help sites listed on that link have blazing commercials and i tend to shut them down just as quickly as i open them. i am so averse to commercials that i am prompted to shut them down just as quickly at they appear! a site soaking wet with commercials it not a free-site,such as this one
https://graphicssoft.about.com/cs/imageediting/tp/freephotoedw.htm
my blog means a lot to me and i may have to bite the bullet and buy photoshop…unless someone else here sees my plea and comes forward with some great idea.
thanks to you all who responded. coming here to ask questions and to get responses is such a privilege.
One alternative is not to yell in your title ??
(all caps = yelling. moshu
……………………………………..sorry, not my intention, and i do hate caps!
why do we have them anyway? i was thinking about that the other day, CAPS serve no purpose expect to tire the fingers having to shift keys? other alphabet that i am familiar with have no such thing as ‘capital letters’. look at my statements here and there are no caps anywhere, right? but that is another story…getting back to photoshop…can anyone tell me about https://www.jasc.com?
i came to learn of that site while searching for an alternative to photoshop. it was my understanding that their software is pretty decent and that they charge a monthly fee of $8.00? has anyone tried it? i can’t be spinning around looking for a graphic software, i just want to find one that i can afford and start blogging. anyone?

In reply to: MUST I LEAN HTML AND CSS?i used to be a cobol programmer for about 5 years of my life and i have spent the last week or so learnign html and css. i am having fun learning them and playing around with the codes on my computer. the design for my site that i have in mind is not out there, therefore i am going to have to design my own theme and i am now feeling more comfortable learning the codes that control the sites.
once my site is up and running my way, i may be back here asking questons again. this seems to be a great place to be to ask questions. but the one question i would like someone to respond to me would be this: if i know how to code html and css, why do do i need wordpress. wordpress is now installed on my brand new site.looking forward to your response.

“Lastly, my god your English is bad. You’re better of
posting to your blog in your native language.”
I am not sure if his/her English is bad or it is intentionally done. I have known people who get on board with broken English just to look stupid. See how he is able to spell the word ‘DESIGN’, not an easy spell for a non-English speaking and then see how he messes up the structure of his sentences. I say it is intentionally done. All he had to do was provide the text of the email exchanges between him and the web designer.
IS HE THE LIEING?
BUT IT LOOSK LIKE STUPIDDS.
btw: when i came back to post the above message, the ape had responded with: I SPEAK ENGLISH ALL MY LIVES…
which proved my intuition 100% right on the money.
this is a monkey wasting your precious time.

That sound like a wonderful idea. what i have in mind for my blog is not complicated, acturally pretty straight forward. the ony minus of having someone else design my site would be that i would miss out on the fun of designing my own (i used to be a programmer (cobol, db2)). but let’t talk. email me at [email protected] and let’s discuss fees.
has anyone read any of these books? any of them anyone would recommend? i have every inclination to certainly get up to speed on this html/css business.
thank you for your assistance.
