Hi Michael,
Thank you for your response, much appreciated. As you say, the site is using Longevity which is fine however, it looks to me that in my dashboard I still have all the settings for the Charis theme which was the one I was using originally. I have downloaded Longevity on my computer but must confess, I am quite confused as I would like to make some alterations to the header layout of Longevity e.g., move “Parish Pictures to a more centre position but how to do that is another problem.

OK, I have got rid of the unwanted menu’s and have selected a theme I want to use everything from my original site is shown on the new theme so the question is, having got everything read, at the top of my dashboard there is a “Change” button. If I click this, will the new theme become active and if so, what happens to the existing theme I have been using please?

Thanks for your reply, no, on the opening page of the site there are a series of drop down menu’s eg, About us, Parish News, Parish Pictures etc etc one in particular I want to remove
St Albans church. I can get all the normal pages but cannot find the ones with all the droop down menus on?

I give up, I have tried all three links shown in your post and got absolutely no where, it’s the penalty for being old. I just cannot make head or tail of it all. I need some simple plain language instructions to get me going. Thaks for what you have done already.

Somehow a weird web site appeared on my screen asking for my credentials, eg password and user name? I gave the necessary information and ended up with something called MANAGEWP – WORKER. I don’t know if it is OK or not but it deposited a Plugin on my web site which I have deleted. I did a virus scan but nothing was found. Have you heard of this plug in at all please?

Hi Jason,

Thanks for replying, much appreciated. There are no error messages and the problem happens with everything, text and pictures, it it’s in PDF when I go to upload media, select the file which loads alright but when I try to install to page, it won’t have it.

I probably should not be sending this post and apologise if I m in the wrong but could not find anywhere to post so am here out of desperation. I have not long been working with WP https://ifieldparish.org and in preparation am trying to learn how to make a gallery of all the pictures I will be taking at our Mayfayre in May. I created a Picture Gallery page and put six pictures in the gallery but none on the actual page. I uploaded the page but no pictures appeared so, what have I done wrong? To conclude, where can I find a tutorial that will show me how to upload pictures etc please?.

OK, thank you. I would be using the same Theme as the other one Charis Church, will that create a problem do you think??

Thanks for your response Andrew. No, I have never had this problem before as I have never tried to create another web site whilst I already have one running. I have not got the faintest idea how to go about creating a new site. I am quite sure you do not do so by just opening a “New Page”. I suspect I open a Theme and start from there using the site’s name and build on that?

kjodle, thanks for your advice. I had a look for a “Contact Form” on the ‘Plug Ins’ list but could not see anything, am I looking in the wrong place?

Thank you Andrew, that worked fine. I am using the Charis Church themne. WordPress version 4.3.1.

What I had in mind was a slide show on the left hand side of the page with a series of church interior pictures working like a marquee.

It might not be possible using WordPress. I have spent the last 25 years using Serif for my web site building so this is all new to me. the Church wants a more modern outlook. That’s fine, but they don’t have to build it…

Thanks for replying Andrew, much obliged. You will see top left in front of the pictures some words in black. I would like to change their colour so people could see them. As it is, if you were to scroll over them, they turn to white in colour.

I don’t know if I should ask this question but is there a way of creating a side bar for the home page that I could put a picture slide show in please?

Thank you for coming back. My web site add is https://parishofifield.apps-1and1.net/ you will see the text I am trying to get rid of right under the striped bars. Also right at the bottom of the page where it says “Join us at // Telephone”, I cannot find anyway to add any text in there. It is all a mystery to me and I have spent hours working at it all to no avail. I am nearly half way down a bottle of malt whisky in attempts to dull the frustration of it all.

I just wish I had a minim of your knowledge, having read what you would do, I would not even know where or how to start. As I said earlier, I am not a computer idiot but my knowledge is basic so what you have said means very little to me. All I want to do is remove the word count from the bottom of my home page and be able to complete the contact details which appear right at the bottom of the page.

I do appreciate you advice and feel so sorry that because of my lack of knowledge am not able to take advantage of it but thank you very much in deed fro trying to help me. I chose WordPress to build my site because it said it was easy to use, well it is, unless you need to make alterations and then it isn’t.
