Thanks so much. I will try both remedies, probabaly the simpler one first. The specific page in question is this one: https://crfg.org/WordPress/home/join/paypal/ which we now realize has another major problem in that it is not responsive/scaling properly on smartphones. A colleague has suggested I have to remove the table coding that was brought over from the old site.

Solved it. It seems that if the post title is more than two lines long, there isn’t room for the Read More button in the space alloted for excerpts. So I shortened the title and the Read More button reappeared. I guess this could probably also be handled in code but this is fine.

Hi, just wanted to amend this to mention that a lot seems to depend on the theme. I switched from TwentySixteen to Dyad and now the breadcrumb to a non-existent Wiki page has disappeared.

Strangely, today I was able to change the permalink to post name with no problem. Yesterday, when the issue occurred, WordPress seemed to be running extremely slowly so something may have been going on with host provider. Thanks for your help.

Changed the permalink but now all the links in the Wiki and Sub-Wikis are broken. I am not sure I really have the energy to rebuild them since I am still getting “Wikis” in the Breadcrumbs. It is pointing to a non-existent page, so I would like to get rid of it. Don’t care about the url.
