Perfect. I just tried the X-Forwarded-For setting, logged in and out and my IP address was recorded in the Live Traffic.
I will keep an eye on this over the next few days but thank you for your help. It looks like we may have figured it out!
Hi again, I have contacted my hosting company and am now waiting to hear back from them.
Mwrusnak, I just saw you wrote about using Varnish. My site is using this as a way of caching to speed up the site with it’s WordPress hosting package on Bluehost. Can you give me any advice to what settings I should use in the WordFence Options that would best suit Varnish?
I’m also not using Cloudflare, but will be getting in touch with my website hosting company to find out about the reverse proxy and then will try to adjust the WordFence settings as suggested by jeasysehgal. Would you recommend using Cloudflare to fix this issue?
Just to update you, the conflict issue was caused by the WordPress HTTPS plugin. When I deactivated this plugin and refreshed the page without the SSL certificate (http not https) the location Google map worked perfectly. I could make changes and save them on the website.
When I activated the plugin again, the Google map on the backend location edit page came up with ‘Location not found’ and any updates I made did not save or show on the front end of the site. Once deactivated again it worked fine so if I need to make any changes to the EM pages in future I will make sure this plugin is deactivated first.
Thanks for your help.
Ok thanks that’s good advice! I’ll look into adding this function to the website.
Thanks for your advice. I’m going to schedule in some time tomorrow when it is quiet to disable the plugins and I’ll feedback on here what I think the issue is.
Thanks for replying angelo. I had a feeling you might come back and say that! Unfortunately as the site is live and taking bookings I can’t really afford to deactivate the plugins and the theme on the website.
What I might be able to try is creating a test site instead and install the plugins one by one to see if that affects the map on Events Manager, otherwise I will have to schedule in some maintenance time for my website at a non busy period.
As other people are also having issues with the map please can you look into why this might be occuring on new versions of EM in the meantime? The map was working fine when I originally built the website a couple of months ago. Thanks.
I’ve just done some extra tests and it seems that all the location Google maps are not able to update any more. I tried several different post codes and addresses but the maps are stuck on whatever they were when the maps were initially set up. Would something have changed with the most recent updates? The maps don’t seem to be working with EM version 5.5.5 or 5.5.3.1 which I was previously using earlier this month.
Thanks for your help. I have updated the plugin and this has fixed the problem with the search not working with apostrophes.
However I have tested the search function and the location isn’t found if you remove the punctuation altogether and simply write St Katharine (removing the full stop and apostrophe from St. Katharine’s). Is there a way round this so the search doesn’t have to be written exactly as the location title is published? Could I write variations on the name as keywords or tags to improve the searchability, for example?
I’m using version 5.5.3.1
Apologies I’ve worked out why the form fields were still showing. The location attributes were placed in the settings page for the Events format. So the good news is the old fields are now not showing in the WP backend Location page.
Thanks for all your help and advice.
I have tried deleting all the old Location attributes in the postmeta database table in phpMyAdmin, which worked last time I had duplicates, but this no longer seems to delete the old forms fields.
In the em_events table I can see a column called event_attributes however in em_location there is no column for location_attributes. Would that be normal?
Some good news.
I’ve been doing some tests and I realised the dropdown menus were saving but the text fields weren’t. I remembered that I had customised a template (after reading this thread) to show textareas instead of text fields. I just removed this custom template file from my theme and tested the text fields and they are now saving the information.
The old Location attribute form fields are still showing on the form however.
No problem ?? It might be worth mentioning that the code snippet needs to be pasted into the customisation provided by angelo to work.
OK bad news. I tried deleting the current Location attributes from the database and also deleted them from the EM general settings but the form fields still appear in the WP backend for the Location pages.
I tried adding in new Location attributes into the General settings and these form fields now appear above the old attributes in the Location pages WP backend. Worse still, the form fields still do not save after I hit the update button.
As with this forum thread, I think I may be experiencing some kind of glitch with the EM plugin after changing the general settings and turning on the custom fields.
Is there anyway if you can see if this would be true? It’s proving a little frustrating as I need this to work for a deadline.
Would it be worth joining the Pro support to help work out why this might be occuring?
Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it!
