    THANKS!

Thanks AddWeb, i was able to fix after posting the original message.
my question was the developer team: having the publish button overtaken is something it has never happen before and should never happen. Try to imagine, if i install a malicious plugin with a fake publish button how much damage can be done!

if you don’t click on the popup the link will be not saved. So we are not skipping any clicks, just obfuscate some steps making it less easy to remember for the casual user.
Either auto-link (without the need to confirm, thus saving a click) or make it clear you need to confirm the link.

So while the gutemberg UI is more slick the UX is not.
The classic editor was ugly but more usable / congruent (see video)

Users that just want to write do not need 90% of options that are given when you press / – the Post writing experience is very different from the page design experience.

The block editor is often over the content, it s lagging behind when typing, when you copy and then paste you copy a lot of extra information, dragging around stuff is a pain.

sometime i wonder if the production team has used other text editor… ghost, medium, even linkedin has a better editor!

Just Clone GHOST for the post. And Buy Gutemberg for an easy page editor.

Thanks for your reply. Yes to edit the post URL you need:

    • save (but why should I, when there is the autosave?)
    • Click on url (not really intuitive – there is no signal i can do that)
    • Edit the pop up (on multiple line, if title is long)
    • Click on X (instead of save with the fear to delete)

So it s 4 un-intuitive steps instead of 1-2 of the “classic editor” – look at how ghost does the same thing is a much better / cleaner way…

in this image is clear how confusiing is the interface: https://s3.eu-central-1.amazonaws.com/gitalia.cdn/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/10154154/permalink-name.png

is it a step back from classic and it s a huge distance in UX between other cms.

I know you cannot do anything about that, and i am sorry we all are shouting our frustration at you… but still Gutember is a not as good as it could be.

@zoonini How is it possible that you found it more intuitive GB than the simply “plain text” experience? There is nothing more intuitive that a blank page and a keyboard. I d really like to see your workflow, maybe i ll learn something.

I don’t mind change ( actually I ve installed Gutemberg before it was integrated into wp, I moved a blog of mine and 2 clients to ghost and another one to pico – just for the sake of the novelty) but the UX fof gutemberg is Still atrocius: i ve not found a way to change the permalink before publish the post, the block editor is always on top of important text, the bullet always needs 3 click to change, the mark down NOW (2023) seems to work fine, i cannot copy paste the document, more often than not the the + sign to add content takes second to appear, moving with keyboard is pain, editing the footer is basically impossible now. Many of my client stopped blogging / creating content coz what it took 1 hour before is taking 2 hours now and it s stressful. <– this is killing wp.

The experience of writing is BAD BAD BAD, and hiding behind the “intuitive” or “i was not using it coz i was resistant to change” narrative is so damaging if you want to build something good. Let’s speak with data.

How much did the “blogging” declined since gutemberg arrived?

And as a moderator, please use the above mentioned ghost to see how a good UX is. I ve 5+ blog on wp and dozens of clients using it, i ve been an early adopter and i Love WP, but it s dying…

    hey?@thelmachido
i can tell you a couple among a millions:

    • How do i change the permalink name before publishing the post?
    • Why the block editor is always over some important text?
    • why it s impossible to copy paste a simple text now?

I ve been using ghost for a year now (in addition to wp) and while Wp interface should be the same it s 5 years back in time for UX.

What specifically do you find not working?

let me reply by using Steve words:

Nobody wants to edit their text like a page builder. I don’t want to drag around my paragraph like it’s a block. Gutenberg treats two very different tasks- editing text and designing a layout as the same thing and in doing so it fails at both.

and i am NOT agaist new stuff: I ve switched a couple of my website to Ghost and using elementor / oxygen very often.

    Hello Rahul,
    none of them worked ??
(i ve been able to use the plugin until recently so it was not a matter of memory)
    Can you suggest some

    Manolo

@melroy – block are not that bad when done right (ghost for example)

a super quick example? the permalink.
it’s in a super narrow column, and i cannot read it as a whole, making mistakes

    other bad UX
you want to copy paste from wp to a doc, and it copy a lot of non requested code.
you want to drag, half of the time it does not work.

you want to see a preview? you click preview and it takes ages to generate, while if i publish it i can see it in few seconds.

if you need to edit a doc and change the heading (from h2 to h3) it takes too many click, the block toolbar and its options some time have are covered.

an little used command like “convert to draft” is taking real estate on the top

if you write a post title like Beatles-kill me softly the permalink became beatles– – –kill-me-softly..
    and list goes on forever.

Sometimes “iframe” of a blocl does not scroll with the mouse wheel and you have to click and bring down, 1996 style

Gutemberg is MUCH MUCH better now that it was when it came out, and on MY blogs i use it just for the sake of learning… but i cannot sell it as an improvement to my clients.

I understand, and I am grateful for your quick reply!
i ran the debug, activate your plugin and got this above the “white page”

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 268435456 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 4096 bytes) in /home/grapplin/public_html/wp-includes/wp-db.php on line 2022

Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 268435456 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 135168 bytes) in /home/grapplin/public_html/wp-includes/pomo/streams.php on line 118

as a reminder the plugin was working before i checked post and pages as in your plugin, so i think if i can disable them i d be more ore less ok.
