No my other sites aren’t running 5.8.1. I took the 4.9.18 code from one of my other sites.s
I don’t know but I downgraded to WP 4.9.18 using the files of one of my other sites and everything is running fine now. Except for Gutenberg since that isn’t on there. But menu editing and image uploads work fine now. So it had something to do with WP 5.8.1
I’ve now also gone through and uploaded new files overwriting my old wordpress install. The only file that is the same is wp-config, since I just overwrote the new one with the old one. Also moved all my old themes to a new folder outside the wp-content directory, so the only theme installed is twenty twenty-one. Deleted every plugin but Akismet and Jetpack and Hello Dolly and those are deactivated.
Again, nothing has changed. Still can’t upload images, the Gutenberg plus block is still inactive (blue but won’t press down at all), even though all the other blocks next to it press down just fine, and the menu editing still doesn’t save. Also tested in Safari now as well. Same issues. Everything is vanilla. I even went and changed my PHP version from 7.4 to 8.0 and still nothing.
This is driving me nuts, I don’t understand why this isn’t working.
Sorry about that. The error I was getting while trying to upload images is this
Post-processing of the image failed likely because the server is busy or does not have enough resources. Uploading a smaller image may help. Suggested maximum size is 2500 pixels.
Of course the images I was trying to upload were far smaller than 2500 pixels. More like 300-600px.
I have tried what you suggested. Deactivated all my plugins and installed the twenty twenty-one theme and monitored my console for javascript errors. Which there were none. Also tried this in another browser, Edge instead of Chrome.
Nothing changed. Still the same issues in the vanilla state.

In reply to: 502 Bad Gateway in wp-adminWordPress versions 4.5.2 and earlier are affected by several security issues..
Why would wordpress automatically update my site to version 4.4.4 yesterday if it wasn’t secure? Why not just go straight to 4.5.3?
Anyway, I fixed it myself by pulling all the files off the server and just adding the new 4.5.3 files and then adding the theme and plugins back. Seems to work just fine now. Maybe it was one of the other themes I had installed but wasn’t using? I don’t know. I only added back the one I’m using.
Either way, some file or files that were there before were messing it up.Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: 502 Bad Gateway in wp-admin4.4.3 was released in May 2016, that’s not very old so I’m not sure what you mean by old.
I’ve already tried different browsers and I get the same thing. It’s hard to believe it’s a server issue since all my other wordpress sites run on this server don’t have any issues just this one and just when trying to get to the wp-admin.
It’s a good suggestion though, and we’ll consider it for a future Jetpack update!
Thank you. There are a lot of non-technical people out there that don’t bother with multiple steps. Even if it sounds straight forward to technical minded people. So I’d hate to have to tell them “if you want to subscribe to my site you have to go to your reader on wordpress.com and then you have to click on edit and then you have to copy and paste my url and then click on follow” at which point they will think “nevermind.”
Making it an easy one button push would be very beneficial.
Can I make two more suggestions while I have your attention?
1. Include a wordpress.com style reader into the wordpress control panel for self install sites. Then those of us who own self-installs can read our subscriptions on our own websites. Nice center and big like a facebook feed. You can even put instream ads into the feed for all I care. This woud allow me to read all my wordpress.com and www.ads-software.com subscriptions right from my own site.
2. You already have a central database of users going at either wordpress.com or gravatar. Allow us to find people on say wordpress.com and put them into friends groups (family, friends, co-workers, etc.) and then be able to mark our posts, pages, images, videos, products, etc. individually so that only the chosen friends groups can see them. Just like how circles work on Google+. I would love to be able to have my own websites where I can mark posts and pages for only certain friends groups to see. So long as those friends are logged into wordpress.com when they visit my dot com they can see that post or page otherwise they get a “You don’t have permission to view this page” page.
A WordPress.com user can start following your site right from their WordPress.com home page, here: https://wordpress.com/#!/read/edit/`
How? I’ve been been looking for the follow button on a self install with jetpack and I don’t see it.
I have two workdpress.com accounts. Each is linked to a self install of wordpress. I put the subscribe widget in the side bar of each site. When I go to each site all I get is a email form to subscribe by email which is exactly what I don’t want. I want a follow button so that all someone has to do is click it and my blog entries automatically start appearing in their wordpress.com reader. So where is that button?

In reply to: Wiki -like page editingYeah I already instlaled that one. Don’t like it either. It doesn’t have any sort of admin control panel and to create a new page you have to edit the URL. My visitors won’t go for that. They need simple/stupid.
