    Hello!

For you good folks on this thread I wrote this and then started a NW thread with it so we have two of these “widget threads” going – no harm I suppose.

There HAS to be other folks who need this fix I am seeking. Like CommonForte.

IS there a way to talk directly to someone on this forum…like a PM or something?

Well anyway here it is: (the post #1 on a new thread started 8/14/09)

    Hello Folks!

    I have widget problems!

Right now I can change current sidebar widgets but I can’t add one. When I try to add one it won’t let me select and drag. It says this near the top of widget central…

“Drag widgets from here to a sidebar on the right to activate them. Drag widgets back here to deactivate them and delete their settings.”

One good fellow suggested I “reupload wp-includes and wp-admin files.”

If that will fix it I will do it, but (there’s always a “but”) Don’t I have to know exactly which version of WP I am currently using to get the exact right for version wp-includes and wp-admin files.

I make everything too difficult…is there someone who can do this for me?

    What would THAT entail?

Anyway I need to fix my widgets! And I usually need very detailed instructions.

You see…I use a blog on the outside. I never go far inside and as a result I know very little, but just enough to cause trouble and waste time.

For me going inside is like falling down the rabbit hole.

    Thank you,

    Riley West

    Hello Ryan!

It sounds like you know what to do but I still don’t get it. Are you saying that I have to replace wp-includes and wp-admin files for that particular wordpress blog?

I’d like not to reinstall the blog because when I do I encounter random problems that I have trouble fixing. (like suddenly I can’t do widgets)

Is there someone a fellow can contact to have a detailed discussion with for fixit advice?

    Thank you,

    Hello whooami!

Thank you so much! I got it all fixed up and did not encounter any more bull.

Thanks to what you told me, I will sleep better tonight.

You can contact me anytime at [email protected] – I owe you one!

What section of the world do you reside in? I am in Eugene, Oregon – out in the woods. Turkeys, Deer, squirrels, birds, dogs, cats, raccoons, go past my window daily. Oh wait…Minnesota! I like Al Franken! And Garrison.

The turkeys and the squirrels are the most fun.

    Hello Folkls:

This is not a reply. This is me not knowing how to use the forum. I can’t even find my past posts.

Anyway…I got the google analytics to work. The code has to be in the footer code just before </body>.

Some themes don’t have the footer code!!! Sneaky!

    Hello M and M:

    Darn fine question!

“First, as marmelade mentioned above – what files did you move? Also, where did you move them to? Last, why did you move them or what were you attempting to do?”

I was just uploading a file when I noticed that some of the wp-admin type files were listed just below what I thought was their folder so I moved them into their folder.

When I clicked on the folder they weren’t and my blog wouldn’t work. I panicked.
I still had my ftp browser though so I went looking for those lost files and found the way down at the bottom of a folder named js.

    I shouldn’t fool around.

Then i got to thinking…Could a blog disappear? That would be a disaster.

Should we back them up and how.

I’ve heard that once you have a WP blog set up the way you want it to be that it can then be “cloned” (Sherman Hu) you can google him.

    Thanks again,

    Hello M and M:

Sorry I got it fixed and detailed that in the blog. I found the most helpful support person ever and he was just 17.

    A real treat.

Now…do you folks out there know how I can get Google Analytics to track my site?

    and…how can I view page/post code?

    Thank you so much,

    Riley West

    hello Marmelade:

I wrote down a bunch of info about the files hoping it would help later.

I am in over my head and worried that I may have lost all my work.
