    Thanks, but it seems to have fixed itself with the latest WordPress update. I guess I’ll never know if it was a bug or freak occurance.

    Updated to 2.7.1 today and the problem is gone. Great stuff!

    This is actually pretty strange.. every new automatic instal from cpanel has this same problem. Yet before I had many blogs with working permalinks… and the original one still works. Should I go to my hosting company about this problem?

    .htaccess is writeable and I see changes in the file when I switch the permalink options on and off.

    Everything seems to meet the requirements and I have another wp blog on the same account with permalinks working.

    I am on a shared hosting account, but have never had problems with wordpress in the past.

    I noticed an error log in the directory, I don’t need if this tells anyone anything but here is what was in it:
