Sorry to repeat question but would really appreciate clarification…
That makes sense – thank you! I will pass this info on to the security company who were checking out my site.
Can I just check :-
– That there will there only be 1 sql file in a wordpress site, which will only be there if the database is being backed up to the site? I don’t want to ignore any others that may be in there.
– Do I put ‘ *.sql’ or ‘.sql’ in the Options box ?

After getting another similar alert
Critical Problems: * File contains suspected malware URL: /home/sgwebsit/public_html/huntermosaics/wp-content/backups/sgwebsit_huntermosaics_current-backup.sql.bab84adee9d95305064bcf3b065d8890db82d12d-wpb2d-secret https://203koko.eu/hjnfh/ipframe2.php%5C
last week, I decided to purchase a malware check to put my mind at rest. The security company who investigated advised the following …
“my best guess is that this security plugin naively scans the database backup file for any suspicious strings of text.
Many security plugins include the “203koko” string as “known malware” because it’s part of a known exploit against a vulnerable WordPress plugin. The way these security plugins store that information (“hey, look out for this koko attack!”) is by writing that suspicious string into their little corner of the database.
You can see where this is going…when a database backup is made in a location that this security plugin can scan, it then sees the suspicious string and mistakes it for the actual malicious file. Then it sends you a terrifying alert about how your site has been compromised.“
Is this what the Wordfence plug in does? If so is there anyway round this other than uninstalling it and using another plug in?!
An update – plug ins have not disapeared -it was just me looking at wrong version of site – dohhh! I have referred the malware URL message on to sucuri.net and they are runniing a malware check on my site. Will update this thread to advise outcome – i.e. should you be worried if you get a similar message from wordfence !
Thanks for your help Brian and apologies for delay in replying. I tried that and it seemed to work , the backup ran for a few weeks without any more warnings being generated. However after the backup this week the following email warning came through from wordfence –
“
Critical Problems:
* File contains suspected malware URL: /home/sgwebsit/public_html/huntermosaics/wp-content/backups/sgwebsit_huntermosaics_current-backup.sql.598503e6ebb0c9ab7c3e2ef04b5e7cc05e81c27e-wpb2d-secret
”
Unfortunately I was unable to check the site until today (2 days later) and have found that two plug ins have disappeared – “Wordfence” and “WordPress back up to Dropbox”! I have an awful feeling that my site has been hacked – any thoughts/ advice re way forward – anyone??
Sandra
Thanks – will be in touch re 1. when site published.
Kind regards.
SandraAgain, thanks for the prompt reply. In response:

Random – that makes sense – thanks for clarifying.
Menu Order – I don’t think I have a caching plugin installed, the only one I have activated is “WordPress SEO by Yoast” . I have two others installed but not activated : “Akismet” and “Hello Dolly”. So this problem still a mystery! Would it help if I keep this query open until my site is published and then I’ll send you a link so you can see it?
2.
OK – I understand thanks. If I want to retain multiple categories, would it be possible to remove the post navigation from the portfolio item pages? If so how? (Ideally I would like to remove just the navigation arrows not the gallery icon)We are getting there…!
SandraThanks for your prompt response – much appreciated! Please see my reply below: –

Common issue faults – permalinks were set as default, and I’m not sure what the other common faults are – sorry! Can you point me in the right direction? Thanks, I now understand that the Filter does not work as I expected it would if “Items per page” is set to anything other than “ALL”.
Ignoring the Filter for now then, re the remainder of this part of my query – if, in my (Gallery)Portfolio Grid Template Page, the “Order items by” is set to “Random” or Menu Order” all is OK if I set “Items per page” to “All”, BUT problems arise if I set this to a specific number as not all portfolio items appear across all the screens in the Portfolio Grid Template page, some appear 2 or 3 times on different numbered screens, some on the same screen and some not at all! Why is this happening?
For info, here are all the settings in the “Portfolio Page options” section of my aforementioned Gallery page: Columns-4; Filter-Yes; Portfolio Work Type-ALL; Order Items by-Random (or Menu order); Items per page-12.
Again -for info- here are the settings in my “Theme options”>”Portfolio options”:
Portfolio options: Portfolio Permalink Base-default(i.e. left blank); Allow comments-Off. Portfolio Navigation Options: All Projects Default Portfolio Page-Gallery (my Portfolio Grid Template Page), Portfolio Arrow Navigation-Navigate through category; Portfolio Category Pages: Choose..-2(no idea what this means- can you tell me?); Portfolio Post Bottom Carousel: Choose..-4 (but not being used).Does this make it any easier to identify what’s going wrong in this scenario?
2. Post Navigation
Now that I have a better understanding of how the Filter works and that it is entirely separate to the Post Navigation, back again to part 2 of my query! My “Theme options”>”Portfolio options”>Portfolio Arrow Navigation” was set to “Navigate through category” but I am still experiencing the same problem, i.e. if I use the Filter to select a particular Portfolio Type, when I open up one of the images of that type that appears and go to its Portfolio Item screen, when I use the Post Navigation arrows at the top right hand side of this screen to browse through other items of that same Portfolio Type other types appear – not of the type originally selected. I’ve played about with this and it only appears to happen if the Portfolio Item I have selected has been given multiple Portfolio Types. It seems to confuse matters! Can you help?Sorry for the length of this message – I’m trying to give you as much info as I think is relevant so you can try and work it out!
I look forward to hearing from you.
Hi there back again I’m afraid! I have now installed the Premium (paid) Virtue theme but the problem still exists with the Portfolio Grid and also with the Filter for the different Portfolio Item types. Sorry but my site is still under development and can only be viewed via my local host!
The problems:
1.
Per the above thread –
In the Portfolio Grid Template page, when I set “Order items by” to “Title” or “Date” – it works fine and all the portfolio items display whether I have “Items per page” set to or “All”, HOWEVER the Filter breaks – when I select a type of Portfolio Item from the different tabs listed at the top of the Gallery screen either no images appear or only some of them do.When I set “Order items by” to “Random” or “Menu Order” – all OK if I set “Items per page” to “All”, BUT problems arise if I set this to a specific number as not all portfolio items appear on the Portfolio Grid Template page and some appear 2 or 3 times – sometimes on the same screen! Although the Filter works in this scenario, another problem comes up – see below!
2. Filter
Per the 2nd para in 1.above, if I use the filter to select a particular Portfolio Type, when I open up one of the images that appears and get to its Portfolio Item screen, when I use the arrows in the gallery(?) icon at the top right hand side of this screen to browse through other items in this category, other types appear – not of the type originally selected. I’ve played about with this and it only appears to happen if the Portfolio Item I have selected has been given multiple Portfolio Types. It seems to confuse matters!
I’d be really grateful if you will consider the above and offer any solutions. It’s very difficult to explain but hope you can make sense of this!
Sandra
Sorry for the delay in replying. The permalinks for the portfolio items look like this:
https://localhost/huntermosaics/?portfolio=test https://localhost/huntermosaics/?portfolio=mosaic-panel-coloured-stripes
In “Settings” however, “Permalinks” are set to
default
. It was set topost name
but I changed it back todefault
ages ago – certainly before I created all the portfolio items. It will probably be another month or so before I move the site to a host.
I currently have another query running on this forum re setting up a different Gallery screen, which you are also helping me with – thank you! As a result, I may be changing over to the paid Virtue Theme and so my existing Gallery, and my existing Portfolio Grid pages and Portfolio items may be superceded. Can we just hold this query (re portfolio items not appearing/ being duplicated) open for now and I’ll check if the same problem arises with the paid Theme?
I’m sorry no I can’t – it’s on my local host. Is there anything else I can send that would help – what about screen grabs of the portfolio grid page’s settings and one of the portfolio item settings? Would that help?

In reply to: [Virtue] Virtue Theme – setting up a different Gallery screenThanks for your prompt response. I had already read the instructions you sent, thank you.
I may go down the premium theme route. I have looked at examples of how it looks on the Theme website and I think it will give me the extra functionality I need for my gallery.
Do you have any info re what extras are included in the premium theme (compared to the free one), and are the instructions the same or do you have different/additional instructions for the premium theme?
Great theme by the way..!
