Fair enough but I think if you decided in future to add an option to search and populate all hard coded empty alt tags that would be a great addition to your plug-in. It’s surprising to me I wasn’t yet able to find any third party solution for this. I really think WordPress should just do it.

Additionally (and unrelated) being able to also modify the image name would make your plugin unbeatable…but you’d have to reconsider the name ??

I don’t think it relates to the Gutteburg block only. Ive expanded the test to include all methods I’m aware of to insert an image and it can’t be updated using either your plugin or with the standard WordPress alt field.

In regards to this behaviour being desirable to maintain alt tags modified in the post. I think the best logic would be to update only the empty alt tags.
