I think it will be best sticking with the standard Twenty Ten theme. Thanks for the help.

I uploaded images 1280 wide and they don’t expand to the full width. The Header Image menu states “While you can crop images to your liking after clicking Add new image, your theme recommends a header size of 940 × 198 pixels.” Mine were 1280 x 383

This is my first website and use of WordPress. I’m only using the Twenty Ten theme settings that I’m aware of. I do have your suggested plugin and “Styleguide – Custom Fonts and Colours”. Nothing appears in the Themes menu that seems to control size. Is there anywhere else I need to check?
I started out using the twenty ten theme then tried Spacious, Communicado and possibly Twenty thirteen. I abandoned all these and went back to the clean look of the Twenty Ten theme. I assume when I changed themes there was no residual code left but from your comment maybe I was wrong?
I haven’t used a Child theme (not sure where to find it) as per your first post.

I changed the 1280px in the CSS code to 1150 to see if that improved the look but it applied the exact same changes as the original code. The header needs to fill the full width of the page or at least be central as it looks odd with the applied changes above. Thanks again.

Many thanks that increased the page area nicely. The header image which is 1280 wide does not go all the way across which now looks a little odd and the left boarder (area between the left edge of the page and edge of text) is now quite narrow. Is there a way to change these?

Thanks for the help but I still don’t get it. I pasted the code above into KompoZer and all it did was paste the same commands as I copied.

I have also created a table in KompoZer and pasted it into WordPress. Unfortunately all the formatting I created changed when I pasted it so obviously tables for me are to avoided. There’s something going on that that isn’t playing nice with me. Thanks anyway.

Thanks for the reply but I’m still at a loss. I downloaded the plugin and it installed because I can see it under settings — OSD Simple Table. Clicking that sends me to a screen similar to the screen image you sent. There are 3 boxes shown but I’m not sure what it all means. Maybe this is not as easy as I thought so maybe I should giveup as I expected something like MS Word.

Apparently I copied the contents not the cells. When I tried copy again the cells were outlined and then the table pasted the same as the original.

Thanks Jackie much appreciated. I had my post page as my front page. I’ve now changed it to ” a static page” and linked it to my true home page.
