Here’s what the documentation says:
“The user roles enabled to see the frontend. Check a role to enable it to show the website with maintenance mode active.”
This is contradictory.
“The user roles enabled to see the frontend”
This to me means people who have logged in, who are the only ones you want to see the frontend of your website. The general public, by contrast, are people you do NOT want to see the frontend of your site while it is in maintenance mode.
“Check a role to enable it to show the website with maintenance mode active.”
This is people who you do want to see the maintenance mode.
I think the problem is how you guys define “frontend”….
To you developers it means, “frontend of the plugin I’m developing.”
But to the rest of the world it means, “frontend of my website.”
Please make your language user-centric!
