In reply to: Registration EmailThis is so incredibly depressing.
I’m searching for this exact answer here and all I’m finding are posts asking the same question, over and over, all with no answers.
If anyone has any idea how to get WordPress to send an email with a password to a new user, who just registered, let me know.
There’s nothing on my error log, I don’t know what else to check.
I get an email saying “a new user has registered” but the user never gets the password email. I am testing this with emails I own, and so the email is 100% for sure NOT going into a spam folder.
I’ve looked and look in WP and cannot find any place to configure this!
HELP!

In reply to: Assign categories to Pages?Well, I came here in search of an answer to my problem of not being able to assign pages to a “category”. I’m using Journalized Winter and after saving index.php as page.php, I finally gave up. I made a blank “parent page” as suggested and made my pages the child. However, it still would not put the pages created my under the category headings I had set up.
When I am speaking of a “Category”, I am actually referring to the “Get Links” function of being able to input a link location and have it automatically appear under a heading you have assigned (in my case on the right sidebar). I want to be able to have my pages listed under specific headings.
My solution was to use the styles.css file in an html file I created and just make them independent pages that I linked in using my link categories. A lot more work, but the css allows it to have the same look and feel.
Hopefully the makers of the 1.6 will be listening….I love the idea of a “live” site (i.e, the blog postings) but there needs to be a middle ground of being able to present “pages” that are dateless and don’t change. If WP is to be a true CMS, this must be more flexible.
moshu,
I don’t know what the hosting company did, but some how they got it working. Thanks for being willing to help so much. You’re great.
Yes, I recognize your name. You’re one of the “good guys” ??
And yes, it is late.
We’ll pick this up tomorrow. THANK YOU!!
Absolutely! The file is called: AKSBLOG_wrdp1.gz and after I did the “restore” at the new host, I “saw” it listed in MySQL, where formerly there was no databases.
When I went through the “restore” (in Cpanel) it said “restoring database” or some such wording as that.
So, I’m pretty darn sure it’s “yes”. If not, I need serious help! ??
under “structure” is says, “no tables found in database”, if that means anything to us.
I see it listed on the left hand side of MyPHPAdmin. So, it is in there.
Is there something else I can check while inside this program?Yes, excatly identical to that.
Bummer.
Yes, I beleive so. Here is the panel:
Databases:
allkitch_AKSBLOGwrdp1Users in AKSBLOGwrdp1
allkitch_wrdp1 (Privileges: ALL PRIVILEGES)Connection Strings
Perl $dbh = DBI->connect(“DBI:mysql:allkitch_AKSBLOGwrdp1:localhost”,”allkitch_wrdp1″,”<PASSWORD HERE>”);
PHP $dbh=mysql_connect (“localhost”, “allkitch_wrdp1”, “<PASSWORD HERE>”) or die (‘I cannot connect to the database because: ‘ . mysql_error());
mysql_select_db (“allkitch_AKSBLOGwrdp1”);User: allkitch_wrdp1 Db: allkitch_AKSBLOGwrdp1
I entered the user, database name and password exactly into wp-config.
LOL. No, I hadn’t done that. (This is my first time doing MySQL!)
Well, that sure did something…..but now the message says,
“It doesn’t look like you’ve installed WP yet. Try running install.php.”
Ahhh!!!
Ok, I didn’t realize this file needed to be updated.
I went into wp-config with Notepad and updated my datebase name, user name and password I assigned and FTP’d it over.
I’m still getting the same mesage.

In reply to: can’t edit sidebar.php or any other theme file!Sorry. Word Press’s built in editor “theme editor” online. I do it this way so I can see the change immediately. I’m not proficient enough to be confident in changes made offiline.
I have always done it this way with no problem with other themes.
Any idea as to how to make the files editable through this method will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
