Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: I can’t even find the Installation Screen !Thanks Batrachoid
I’ve deleted all the wordpress files from the website, hard-drive and even the zipped file that I originally downloaded. I thought that I might as well start from scratch and try and eliminate all potential problems. So I’ve downloaded it again.
Last time I unzipped it into a file of all my website stuff on the hard drive, modified the config file there and then copied the whole lot over to my site by FTP.
So before I start again, is this the best way to do it?
And should I install it as before, alongside all my website pages and files, or should I install it a level higher, where there are files like webalizer, infobots etc
I need to try and get it right this time!
Thanks…Seoirse

In reply to: I can’t even find the Installation Screen !Thank you apljdi, I do appreciate you giving your time to help. I’d have replied a bit quicker, but it was getting on for 1.30am, I ain’t so young as I was and my brain was addled…
I can’t find .htaccess anywhere, so perhaps that’s not the problem.
But if you never made it to the install screen it can’t be installed, not really. The files are there but the database tables that WP needs aren’t, or shouldn’t be.
I’ve done on a search, but can’t find any reference to finding out whether wordpress is properly installed. Is there something I should do, or at least check to see if it’s properly installed.
Thanks….Seoirse

In reply to: I can’t even find the Installation Screen !APLJDI…my server definitely supports PHP, that was one of the first things I checked. Incidentally, if I enter https://www.coppercoastworkshops.com/wordpress/wp-admin/wp-admin.css. in my browser I get the following messages
1.The requested URL /wordpress/wp-admin/wp-admin.css. was not found on this server.
2. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an Error Document to handle the request.I’m sure that WordPress is already installed. I used note book to look for the .htaccess in wp-admin.css, but couldn’t find any sign of it – am I looking in the right place?
BATRACHOID…I’ve tried just about every permutation like you suggested already after reading all the support files – I thought I’d better do that before asking on the forum – but still no joy.
It’s a bit of a shot in the dark, but do you think that the database I created is somehow corrupt?
Thanks for your suggestions guys, at least I don’t feel all alone now.
