In reply to: Character ProblemsIn case someone searches the forum for a problem like this, it was resolved by using code generated at https://www.feeddigest.com. Special characters print correctly in the feeds.

In reply to: Character ProblemsI use a bullet in the title of my posts at https://logoswalk.com/journal/index.php. All of the newsreaders or services such as MyYahoo, etc. I’ve tried render the bullet correctly or simply delete it. But none of the scripts/methods I’ve found render the bullet correctly when I attempt to have the latest post show up on the front page of my main web site at https://logoswalk.com/. It’s either replaced with a very strange character or a question mark.
I’m currently using RSSLib to read and insert the post title, date, and summary, but it is only the latest in a long list of solutions I’ve tried. I’ve been leaving posts like this all over and would love for someone to “put me out of my misery”, so to speak, and tell me what to do. ?? I’ve used the escaped equivalents and the “&” codes, but none of them work. (I’ve determined that no special characters render correctly, so it’s not just the bullet itself.) Thanks!

In reply to: Help with RSSSorry about that. It was “Subscribe Me” Beta 1.0. I downloaded it anew and reinstalled it and everything worked great! Thanks for following up.

In reply to: Email body quotes not escapedSpinningmud,
You may have already tried this, but I once had a similar problem with the categories and found that deleting then recreating them resolved the issue for me. Fortunately I was still new to WP and had under 100 postings so it wasn’t as painful as it could have been. You might try deleting just one and re-creating to see if that’s it. Hope this helps.

In reply to: WordPress Theme and GoLiveBoth. Just double-click on a php file to open and edit it, or create a new file by selecting File | New Special | PHP Script. The other thing that’s MUCH better about using GL is if you ever want to modify the CSS sheets.
Forum: Themes and Templates
In reply to: WordPress Theme and GoLiveI was editing and making all changes for the first few weeks to WP via the web interface to my site provided by my host provider. When I finally synchronized it to my GL site I scolded myself for a good 10 minutes for not doing it from the beginning. GL not only opens up the php files with no problems, but makes it much easier because of both the line numbering and the color coding—not to mention GL’s very good search features. And, of course, the superior site administration features are fantastic.
The issue that arises from time to time is in the way URL’s are handled. Every once in awhile GL substitutes its own version of a relative URL. This will be obvious by the little red “bug” icon next to the file indicating “something” is not quite right. Open the file, click the “bug” icon, place your cursor next to whatever is highlighted, switch to Source view and you can make the necessary changes, save, and re-upload.
This tends to happen with plugins that you may have saved to your hard disk and then dragged and dropped into the GL site. I’ve found that if you save the plugin files directly into the right folder in the GL site to begin with and do a refresh, this issue with the URL doesn’t seem to come up.
GL also has the ability to create php files which has come up a couple of times as well. Hope this helps.

In reply to: Can’t Edit LinksOpen up the PHP file(s) in GL, switch to the “Source” view, and use Edit | Find | Find Content function to look for all occurrences of EmptyReference!. They’ll be found within opening and closing apostrophes (eg, ‘(EmptyReference!)’) so you’ll just want to delete everything between leaving just the apostrophes with no space between. That did the trick for me.

In reply to: Dashboard Not UpdatingMy blog is hosted on MidPhase and the admin feeds just went blank. I came here to see if the problem was posted, and now join in with the rest of the chorus singing, “Huh?” ??

In reply to: Can’t Edit LinksNo, the code was originally installed by my host provider via Fantastico and subsequent changes made using their web-based text editor and FTP. The problem existed for weeks. It wasn’t until I downloaded WP into GL, synchronizing it with the rest of my site, that I was able to see the issue. I edited and uploaded the files via GL and for the first time in weeks the problem went away. But thanks for the thought…

In reply to: Can’t Edit LinksClosure For Inquiring Minds:
I downloaded all of the WP directories/files to my local machine into my Adobe GoLive site file and opened up GoLive. It identified a number of files, including edit.php, as having “something” wrong. (Indicated by an annoying little red bug icon next to each.) I found in these files several places where ‘(EmptyReference!)’ needed to be changed to ” as the action. (In other words, nothing needed to be between the apostrophes.) I can finally edit links now.
Don’t know why space aliens came in the middle of the night and did this to me ?? but thought I’d close out this thread just in case it happens to anyone else.
Great plugin!
Formatting question: I’d like to include it in my sidebar menu so I can create a header for it that matches those being used by my theme. How can I insert it without it forcing the entire sidebar down below the posts? (Right now I made it the very first thing in sidebar.php to avoid the issue, but the trade-off is I can’t create a header.)
Thanks again!
Edited to Add: This appears to be an IE-only problem and looks fine in Opera and FireFox. I figured this out looking at MacManx’s page to see how it appeared for him. I did a search on the forum but I’m not coming up with anything, but am sure someone can point me to where this has already been discussed??? Thanks.

In reply to: Can’t Edit LinksI’ve redownloaded, extracted and uploaded twice now, even making sure to completely delete the entire wp-admin folder before uploading a fresh one. Nada.
I change the same link every week to point to a new page on my web site, so this is why I noticed it happening as of the 1.5–>1.5.1 update, and continuing with 1.5.1.1.
Does someone know what is actually being called when the update link button is pressed? Might it be something outside of the wp-admin folder? (I’m a-fishin’…)

In reply to: Can’t Edit LinksSorry about the confusion…”Links” in the WP Admin as in Links|Manage Links. I’m looking at the list of links under “Manage Links” for the whole blog, I click “Edit”, make a change, and when I click the “Save Changes” button I get a blank “The page cannot be found” screen with this URL as the address: https://logoswalk.com/journal/wp-admin/(EmptyReference!)
In fact, while going through the above in order to write this message, just clicking on the “Save Changes” button in the “Edit a Link” screen under “Manage Links” yields the error.
Does this help clarify?
