Thank you so much! Glad you like it.

    Hi Stefek,

WPide is currently inactive. I have an updated version called AceIDE which attempts to fix this issue as of version 2.5.4.

This empty space is due to noise – output from plugins or the active theme. Usually, it is simply space before the opening PHP tag.

Please, feel free to have a look into AceIDE. It has the same look and feel as WPide, but with many bugfixes and additional features.

    Kind Regards,
    Shane

    Hi Philip,

Great to hear from you again, I’m feeling the love! ??

Really sorry to hear that. I like that idea. I like it a lot.
I’ll definitely add it to the wishlist.

Maybe also a good idea would be to have a setting that specifies a file size limit, say 20MB. Of course, people with faster internet connections would be able to increase this limit. And for files over this size, you would have to acknowledge the size of the file before downloading/viewing it.

What are your thoughts on that addition? I think it would combat this issue quite nicely.

Thanks again for your input, it is much appreciated.

    Kind Regards,
    Shane

    Hi BackuPs,

Thanks for your question. I am currently working on a redesign of the settings dialog, so the themes may be selected from a dropdown rather than having to be typed in manually.

If you really do wish to change the theme, it’s not the nicest… But here’s how to find your themes.

Navigate to plugins/aceide/src/js/ace-1.2.4. There are a number of javascript files in here. Find those prefixed with ‘theme-‘. These are your options. For example, the default theme is ‘textmate’. If you were to choose this, you would find the file ‘theme-textmate.js’, take ‘textmate’ as the name of the theme, and specify ‘ace/theme/textmate’ to the settings dialog. As another example, to use the ‘dawn’ theme, you would find ‘theme-dawn.js’. So you would specify ‘ace/theme/dawn’ as your theme. Upon closing the settings dialog, the appropriate theme is swapped to by the editor.

In regards to that funny little cross you have, I don’t actually see it on mine. I am using Google Chrome version 56.0.2924.87 on Ubuntu 16.10. WordPress is version 4.7.2 and AceIDE is version 2.5.4.

    Settings dialog

If you could give me the same info for your setup, maybe I can replicate and find this issue.

    Thanks for getting in touch!

    Kind Regards,
    Shane

    Hi ShortPixel,

The WPide plugin seems to be no longer maintained.
I have a fork called AceIDE with many bugfixes. If you continue to have problems with WPide, feel free to give AceIDE a shot, and let me know if you have any issues so we may sort them.

    Kind Regards,
    Shane

Brilliant, thanks for letting me know.

    Hi lws-mo,

I am the owner of the AceIDE plugin, and I watch the support forum for WPide, due to the current maintainer being mysteriously quiet…

It sounds like you’re running into a permissions issue on WordPress. Are you sure that WordPress has write privileges on wp-content? This will surely not be an issue with WPide or AceIDE, as they are not installed yet. However, we do want to help you get them installed.

On a side-note, the reason I maintain AceIDE is because WPide seems to be no longer supported. The current plugin is over a year old, with multiple known bugs. AceIDE feels exactly the same, but many of these issues have been fixed, there are new features and I am providing support.

For instructions on fixing file permissions, see this great article from Smashing Magazine. You could also read up on WordPress’s official recommendations for file permissions on a hardened install.

I hope this helps you resolve your issue. Please let me know how you go.

    Kind Regards,
    Shane

    Hi Kyle and gmoon,

Thanks for your responses. This marker is, in fact, to do with fixing the above bug.

This bug introduces a change to the javascript file sent to the browser, without which you would definitely see this marker.

Can you please clear your cache and try again, I’m sure this will solve your problem.

    Kind Regards,
    Shane

    Hi Luizbills and Lotusms,

The latest version of AceIDE (2.5.4) now has some more checking to ensure no extra data is added to the start of the file.

Please feel free to test and get back to me with your thoughts.

Ahh that makes so much more sense.

I am uploading a bugfix for the plugin as we speak.

Thank you for your patience, Philip, it is much appreciated!

I can’t really say without knowing what the error is – it may not even be permission related.

However, when you open AceIDE, just like WPide it will give you a quick summary of file permissions. You could post that here and I will have a look over that, and make sure everything is correct.

If everything is correct, I would have to know what the error is in your error log before I could give any sort of advice on how to solve the issue. However this seems good progress so far.

    Thanks

Ahh that will definitely be an issue!
You will have to look in your cPanel error logs to determine why it is giving us a 500 Internal Server Error.

    Thanks again,
    Shane
