I would recommend as many current users as possible to post comments about their displeasure here: https://make.www.ads-software.com/core/2015/10/02/update-on-twenty-sixteen/.
AND, maybe it has been recently decided that the Twenty Sixteen theme will be presented as the Flagship Theme for some of the new Feature Plugins that have been recently merged into the core for the upcoming release of WordPress 4.4 https://make.www.ads-software.com/core/2015/10/13/week-in-core-sept-28-oct-11-2015/. If that is the case, maybe a decision had to be made (Mid-Stream) to NOT provide backwards compatibility for pre-4.4 WordPress releases. Don’t know for sure…just thinking.

In reply to: [Twenty Sixteen] Theme update boinks WP 4.3.1davorg,
Seriously, can’t you see what a bad idea this is? If you release a theme without marking it as “Beta” or something like that, then people are going to start using it. Taking it away from them again six weeks later is just rude.
I agree with you that it was poorly planned out, but I’m only an end-user myself and not a Theme Developer. The only reason that I knew what was gong on is that I follow this tab https://make.www.ads-software.com/core/ daily. When I saw that no explanation was being offered here for current users, I decided to do it on my own. I know that it doesn’t provide a good remedy for your dilemma, but it’s all that I can do.
You might post a comment here https://make.www.ads-software.com/core/2015/10/02/update-on-twenty-sixteen/ to prevent your dilemma from happening to others in the future.

In reply to: [RICG Responsive Images] RICG Responsive Images moving to WP corewhatsupskip,
I read a discussion in Slack today in the #core channel by mike:
https://wordpress.slack.com/archives/core/p1444854146003679He brought up this issue with others who voiced their concerns and they decided to continue the discussion this Friday on the #feature-respimg Slack channel. So, it’s still up in the air.
If you have not signed up for slack, try this link to do so:
https://make.www.ads-software.com/chat/ and then follow the #core channel daily, and the #feature-respimg channel weekly, to keep abreast of what’s going on.Hope that provides more help.
Bego Mario Garde,
I did get your point…
I was just trying to prevent others from getting as irritated as you are.
To anybody on this thread,
This was posted on October 2, 2015: https://make.www.ads-software.com/core/2015/10/02/update-on-twenty-sixteen/ and within the text is the following quote: “Twenty Sixteen now also will require 4.4-alpha”.
The only way you can get the current versions of Twenty Sixteen to work properly is to upgrade your website using the WordPress Beta Tester Plugin located here:
https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/wordpress-beta-tester/. You have to install it, enable it, and then choose option #2 (Bleeding edge nightlies) on its Settings page.If you have never done that before, I would very carefully read both the Reviews and Support Tabs for the plugin. Otherwise, you’ll have to wait until WordPress 4.4 comes out in the first week of December to download the finished product of Twenty Sixteen.
Hope that helps.

I think so…but I’m not sure. I tried to start some discusions on that quite some time ago, but I think everybody was too busy to address it:
1. https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/what-is-the-best-single-image-size-to-upload-to-my-site?
2. https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/additional-images-sizes-to-media-settings?
Here’s my most recent comment on the image question:
3. https://core.trac.www.ads-software.com/ticket/34196#comment:20
The developers of this plugin and its merge into WordPress Core have put a lot of professional effort into this endeavor (for free). I’m tickled-to-death they are doing it, and won’t be disappointed with the final result. After the release of WordPress 4.4, I’m sure tweaks will continually be made for Responsive Images in the future releases of WordPress. It is both the Present and Future of the Web.
Lastly:
Many discussions, ideas, proposals, rejections, and core commits take place here: https://wordpress.slack.com/archives/feature-respimg before they actually end up in an Alpha, Beta, or Stable release. Some of your and my ideas may have already been thrashed about by the Core Developers, and they may have good reasons for their decisions.

In reply to: [RICG Responsive Images] RICG Responsive Images moving to WP coreMore information:
The release date for WordPress 4.4 is targeted for December 8, 2015:
https://make.www.ads-software.com/core/version-4-4-project-schedule/.Between now and then, the end-user has 2 options:
1. Stay on the current WordPress 4.3.1 version and continue using this plugin with all of its future updates, OR
2. Be daring, and move to the Alpha Nightly Builds version of WordPress which already contains the merge of this plugin. IF you chose to do that (which I have already done), you will have to install this plugin first: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/wordpress-beta-tester/. After you enable the plugin, choose the second option on the settings page (Bleeding edge nightlies).
The lead developer (Mr. Joe McGill) recommends that you wait until the 3.0.0 version of the plugin is released first: https://github.com/ResponsiveImagesCG/wp-tevko-responsive-images/pull/213. I personally jumped the gun and went ahead anyway after I uninstalled the plugin first. I’ve had no problems that I’m aware of, but anybody else should probably take Joe’s advice.
Concerning the WordPress Beta Tester Plugin:
I have personally been using it on-and-off for over 2 years. IF you’ve never used it before, please read all of the plugin’s Reviews and Support Forums BEFORE you make the decision. Some end-users are more daring and tolerant with software issues (if there are any) than others. Since I am NOT an employee of WordPress, a developer, or a programmer (only an avid end-user) don’t do something you may not feel comfortable with and then blame me later if you are not happy with your decision. I’m only trying to present the current options available to you at this time, with the future merge of this plugin.
Happy Trails

I’m glad you posted your title into this forum. Here is a condensed list of links for you and others to review:
1. A merge proposal for the WordPress Core was made on September 30th:
https://make.www.ads-software.com/core/2015/09/30/responsive-images-merge-proposal/.2. The initial core patch was offered on October 5th:

https://core.trac.www.ads-software.com/changeset/34855.4. An additional image size was proposed on October 7th:
https://core.trac.www.ads-software.com/ticket/34196.5. Core support for image regeneration was proposed on October 8th:
https://core.trac.www.ads-software.com/ticket/34223.Beginning with the release of WordPress 4.4 most current plugins that deal with Responsive Images will either become redundant, or have to be updated to integrate with what the WordPress Core itself already offers.
The RICG Responsive Images Plugin itself has been updated twice on GitHub:
https://github.com/ResponsiveImagesCG/wp-tevko-responsive-images/tree/2.6.
https://github.com/ResponsiveImagesCG/wp-tevko-responsive-images/tree/199-post-merge-cleanup (but as of this minute, have not been released to the public yet).Forum: Reviews

In reply to: [RICG Responsive Images] Width and Heightarmando_e,
I’m not one of the developers, and cannot answer your question (you’ll have to wait for someone else to do that for you). But since you know how to code, I thought I’d give you three links that you might find useful:
1. This Plugin’s Merge Proposal for WordPress Core: https://make.www.ads-software.com/core/2015/09/30/responsive-images-merge-proposal/.
2. The Initial Core Patch Offered: https://core.trac.www.ads-software.com/ticket/33641.
3. The Initial Core Commit which will show up in WordPress 4.4:
https://core.trac.www.ads-software.com/changeset/34855.With your skills, you might be able to help contribute to the core merge or comment on its continued development as a plugin until that time.
SiverOkami42,
Five things have recently happened that may affect whether-or-not you keep developing your own plugin:
1. The developers of the RICG Responsive Images Plugin made a Merge proposal for WordPress Core: https://make.www.ads-software.com/core/2015/09/30/responsive-images-merge-proposal/.
2. It was started with this ticket: https://core.trac.www.ads-software.com/ticket/33641.
3. The initial merge commit was here: https://core.trac.www.ads-software.com/changeset/34855
4. The Plugin’s current version is at 2.5.2: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/ricg-responsive-images/
5. GitHub shows an upcoming version of 2.6.0 here: https://github.com/ResponsiveImagesCG/wp-tevko-responsive-images/pull/212
I would think that the RICG Responsive Images Plugin will continue to be updated until its full merge into Core takes place with the release of WordPress 4.4. I would also think that any Plugin Developers that currently focus on Responsive Images will have to adapt their own products to what the WordPress Core offers at that time.

In reply to: [RICG Responsive Images] The idea is great but…thatgrrl,
Two separate issues:
1. You may find that one of the most recent revisions of the plugin already fixed your image size issue. If not, try to touch base with Joe McGill (lead developer).
2. I believe that the JetPack Module that you are addressing is called Photon. I’m not sure how that will integrate with the embedding of this plugin into the Core if it does at all (might be a good question to ask).
SebastianS,
Here’s the initial merge commit to core: https://core.trac.www.ads-software.com/changeset/34855
