In reply to: Does my page load reasonably fast?Ah, thanks, royho and jwane. Both on a 10Mb! I′m right now on a better connection (3Mb) but yesterday I was on 1Mb. If one is lucky, anyway, because most of the time it’s around 160 Kb.
And yes, the skiing squirrel is a darling. I want one, too!

In reply to: Link to external blogHi Chucky,
Your link comes out fine. I clicked on it, and was sent to your blog in mere moments.
Funnily enough, you have a Blogger blog. I wonder how you came to post on a WordPress forum? Ah well, matters not!
Keep up the good work,
Charlotte

In reply to: Showing off Recent Work / Did it in two weeksHey Carlos,
The demo reel loaded fine for me – and I’m on a crappy, slow connection, so I’d have to suppose it loads fine for everyone.
Yes, the text (and the gallery pics on the Gallery page) on the Bio page leaks out. I remember from the days I made websites from scratch, that this sort of thing can be totally an issue with a certain browser combined with a certain screen size.
My browser is mainstream: Firefox 3.0.14 (latest, I think.) But I’m on a netbook, and they have a small screen size. I can scroll down, of course. But maybe a netbook does make things look less good. If it only happens on netbooks, I wouldn’t worry about it – a lot of sites look not so great on netbooks, I’m sure most netbook users realize that.
Good luck again,
Charlotte

In reply to: New Site with custom designed templateHa Lalan,
Always cheering to visit a cemetery site! But, truly: you’ve done a beautiful job. The home page is very attractive (other pages seem a bit less attractive to me, though. Getting things to look nice inside the container isn’t easy. I know that from my own experience, too.) Nice touch with the ‘flippable corner’.
Good luck,
Charlotte

In reply to: A couple of sites to show offHi Alan,
As to the mensajes de texo (lies in print? or something?): looks fine. Font size is not very large, but the font type makes it readable enough – for most people, I think.
As to the Heh, herbal forum: very pretty. To me it would look yet prettier if that lovely picture in the header had a small border, even just 1 pixel would do. But you might prefer without.
Masonic stuff, which would be more Heh to me than a herbal forum: page took really long for me to load. I’m on a fairly crappy connection, but other pages load 50 times faster, it seems. Is it a very heavy page?
Personally I think this site looks much less good than your other sites. One font used throughout, and in same size, for links, text, everything. Why not give some links a bit more of a visual appeal? Like the twitter link – that little bird looks neat on (almost) any site. Well, perhaps the masons wanted a sober make-up. In that case, I’d not add frivolous images of twittering birds, but still style the links and sections of your sidebars.
And the collar picture in the right sidebar is…just plain ugly. Grainy. Low resolution.
Dover Homes looks much better, again. If a bit bland. But, well, my own site is hugely bland. Easier said than done, to give a page that Wow! look.
Keep up the good work, Alan,
Charlotte

In reply to: domigo’s photography, once, photo & wordsOmg, domigo,
unfortunately, your site totally doesn’t render in my browser (Firefox.)
Well, I exaggerate: it renders, but almost all the text is replaced by strange little icons. Same thing has happened in your post to this forum, actually – though here only a few letters are affected.Forum: Your WordPress
In reply to: Finally, the blog I wantHi fundy,
(Are fundies supposed to play poker…?),
At first blush: very professional make-up of your site. No arguments there. As to readability:
font is very small! Also, a picture here or there would make things a lot livelier.
JMO, just my opinion,
good luck,

In reply to: My gaming Lifestyle Site.Hi Phant,
At your service.
I think the main container and the sidebar look very good together. I think (but that’s of course just my personal opinion) that your site could look better, though, with a few changes –
1. The title, Lost Ninja – don’t you think that should be displayed much bigger? I think that would make the page more attractive
2. The font you use is very small, and in addition you have negligible margins. This reduces the readability. Which is a pity, because otherwise things look very attractive, with the nice images and all. (I particularly like the lovely ninjas image at the top.)
Also, at some point lower down on the page, the text actually runs out on the left side of the text box. So, maybe you should look a little more into those things. Possibly. If you like. Maybe. Kind of…Forum: Your WordPress
In reply to: Showing off Recent Work / Did it in two weeksHey Carlos,
That ain’t no site to be ashamed of.
Of course, the awesome photos do a lot for the site. I like the way you’ve displayed them very much, especially on the home page – that looks great.
On the bio page, the text doesn’t stay inside the photo+text frame (at least in my browser, on my netbook.) Maybe you did that on purpose – it also happens on the gallery page, but there it looks cool. Less so on the bio page, I find.
Really like the way the demo reel is displayed, and also the nice lettering of the short quote at the bottom of every page.
What I’m not crazy about, though it isn’t ugly by any means, is the navbar on the home page. It looks like not much attention was paid to it. I think it could work the way you do it, which is a very basic way. Could be cool, but I think it needs a little more work. Perhaps making the lettering come out more? Right now it looks vague. Maybe making the font just a little smaller, and just a little whiter?

In reply to: My first e-commerce site (not finished)Hey Liang,
Looks like more of a technical question, to me. I think this forum is just for asking people’s opinions on how sites look, how well they navigate etc.
So I think you may have to head to another forum
Good luck
