Just tried everything again and still not working. The menu (when all is/was working) is typical horizontal with buttons not just a highlight stacked list and there is a slider and three call out services- none of these even register in the preview let alone on line. I can see them in the customizer and have reloaded everything several times and saved and published and nothing changes. Hence my setting the homepage to the shop so that it looked semi passable.
