In reply to: Meta tags and RSS feed?Thaks Moshu,
So if someone wants to subscribe, should they click the RSS link? Or should they use Bloglines or a similar aggragator? Is there a simple subscription plug-in that I could add to the site for people to use. I know other rock climbers and skiers who are as ignorant of blogging software and use as I am, but who would like to read about climbing!
How do I get the blog updates to them? Thanks so much for your help everybody!

In reply to: Meta tags and RSS feed? Thanks Viper007bond,
When I click on “RSS” I get a page that says:
“This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.”
across the top, and then it says:
<!– generator=”wordpress/2.0″ –>
–
<rss version=”2.0″>
–
<channel>Does it do that because I’m the site owner, and work differently for outside readers? I’ll ask some other people to check those links.

The two RSS feeds don’t seem to work? How do I get them to work?Forum: Themes and Templates
In reply to: choosing a theme – what’s easiest to add or change?I read the other thread about “Servers handle code differently”. I didn’t find any of the offending [] characters that they mention.
Has anyone else installed Maple or Vesuvius on a Mac?
Forum: Themes and Templates
In reply to: choosing a theme – what’s easiest to add or change? No, I didn’t open the files. I put the complete Vesuvius and Maple folders, unopened, as is, into the WP – contents /themes folder.

In reply to: choosing a theme – what’s easiest to add or change? The images folder does have the vesbg1.gif in it,
and both Maple and Vesuvius have index.php files.
But presentation – themes tells me that the themes are incomplete and specifically that the “Template is missing”.I’m on a Mac G4, using OSX; would that make a difference?

In reply to: choosing a theme – what’s easiest to add or change?HI,
I checked the contents of the folder for Vesuvius.
It contains the following files:
vesuvius Folder
leftbar.php
archive.php
images
page.php
index.php
comments.php
comments-popup.php
sidebar.php
header.php
footer.php
style.css
vesbg1.gifI tried downloading Dark Maple to see if it would work. I got the following error message:
“The following themes are installed but incomplete. Themes must have a stylesheet and a template.
Name Description
Dark Maple Template is missing.
Vesuvius – 1.5.1 Template is missing.”I then checked my working themes (WP Classic, WP Default, Plain Vanilla) and saw no file or folder called “template”. I’m not sure what to try next? I managed to download and try several themes, Plain Vanilla, Dixie Belle, lightCMS 1.0, but none gave me the result or appearance I wanted.
What else should I try? thanks for your help.

In reply to: choosing a theme – what’s easiest to add or change?I admit I don’t really know anything yet … but my son explained what CSS is… and I’m both playing with my site (not yet online) and reading parts of the Codex. My goal is to write, not learn to design web pages, so I hoped I could get a workable layout and go from there.
Thanks, Moshu, I will download and try Vesuvius.
I like the Chocolate and Zucchini blog (which is not a downloadable theme and is in Movable Type!) and would like something close to that. I like the understated color scheme, 3-column layout, picture in the top middle of the text, and it seeems to have all the features I could need.Forum: Themes and Templates
In reply to: adding a theme to WP 2HI,
It worked. I put the new themes in the correct folder and they appear when I click “View site”. Like Magic!
Thanks!

In reply to: adding a theme to WP 2Ah – thankyou! That explains it! I have wp-inculdes, but not wp-content nor admin.
I’ll try downloading again. Is there something I did wrong in the original download, or is this jsut one of those glitches?
thaks again!

In reply to: adding a theme to WP 2Hi,
The folder I downloaded and unzipped is called WordPress – 2.0. I searched my computer for folders with “content/ themes and found none. In the wordpress – 2.0 folder are documents and folders called:
wp-blog-header.php
wp-login.php
wp-pass.php
wp-rss.php
and finally:
wp-includesThe folder wp-includes has other documents and folders – cache, locale, gettext, class-snoopy, wp-db, images, but no folder called content/themes. I thought perhaps the folders changed from WP 1.5 to WP 2.0? So maybe I need to use a folder with a different name?
My blog is not yet online. I bought a domain name: it will be called Fun Climbs Around the World. I downloaded and installed word Press 2 days ago and am trying to get it to work, write content, and add photographs before I publish (is that the correct term)? I wrote a book, Fun Climbs in Colorado, a rock climbing vacation guide and want to extend the guide to other countries on my blog, but have never done a blog yet!
