Agreed. The author has to decide whether he wants to be building a commercial one or a free plugin. Using ultra-bold red letters on every backend page to remind me that I haven’t donated is an asshole move: if I wanted to donate I’d have done so in the first place.
A 1-star rating for this one, and I’ll be discontinuing its use soonish, when I’ve built its functionality into the theme.
