Forum: Installing WordPress
In reply to: Problem Viewing Posts on This ForumI guess the bottom line is that I am not the only person experiencing the problem and the only solution is to migrate to IE7.
I tried that a couple of years ago, ran into problems immediately. I cannot recall at this time what those problems were except they were bad enough to cause me to revert to version 6.
Oh well, just thought I’d ask.

In reply to: Cform Plugin Not Appearing in Plugin Mgmt ListThanks again for your help.
I checked, and I checked again, and then I checked again to make sure I uploaded /contactforms and not /cforms/contactforms….
But after reading your last comment (6 days ago) I checked again and…
there is was, /cforms/contactforms bigger than $***.
Man gettin’ old is hell.

In reply to: Problem Viewing Posts on This ForumOkay, let me state it a different way.
When I view the list of topics, the list is centered in the window.
Everytime I view the thread titled
“how do I change the “[…]” after the excerpt?”
the window contents are shifted to the left edge such that the column containing the poster’s name is not visible. A horizontal scroll bar appears at the bottom left. Moving it to the right just shifts the comment boxes to the left and out of the window.
If I go back to the topic list, the window contents are centered like they should be.
If I click on other posts, most of them are centered and I can view the poster’s name.
It is not likely this is a problem with IE6. It is more likely to be a problem with system used to display the posts.
I just thought there might be a workaround or a setup parameter I could change.

In reply to: WORDPRESS 2.3.3 IS AVAILABLE!!!!It’s probably moot at this point, but I recall reading about problems at Bluehost when uploading files… Depending on what one uses to do the uploading, existing files WILL NOT be overridden and apparently no warning is given.
I never saw that problem because I use dedicated ftp applets, so I wouldn’t be surprised if this has something to do with the “new and improved” file manager used in Bluehost’s cPanel…
Just my 2 cents…

In reply to: Resgister to commentSo if users must be registered and logged in to comment, how does armstrong1118 get users to ask to be registered?
Maybe I’m out in left field about this, but the only way I can see is to include a message on the page that says something like, “Hey if you want to leave a comment, send me an email with your request and I’ll set it up for you…”
Fraid I don’t know what happens when the box you suggested is ticked.

In reply to: New User Suddenly Appeared in WP DatabaseI was using version 2.3.1 at the time.
No, I don’t have my log files. I just spent some time with my BlueHost cPanel looking around for something but the only thing I could find was a 51-byte “raw access” file in GZ format.
Thanks for your interest – wishing you a prosperous 2008!

In reply to: How to hide index of wordpress directory?Sorry can’t help you there. I can’t find any instance of Options-Indexes in my files (local or online) so this must be a Dreamhost issue and I don’t use Dreamhost.

In reply to: Can WP do image mouseovers?Similar but no cigar. Moving the mouse over different parts of an image(map) brings up different urls when one clicks the mouse button. If for example you had a map of the U.S., clicking over various states would link to something to do with that state.
I’ll keep lookin’.

In reply to: What are these comments [summary]Thanks, Otto. And just to nail it down, if my posts have no links to other posts inside my site, I probably don’t need this plugin, right??
