For anyone who stumbles on this post – I did solve it. In my case it was a few minor multiple things combined.
First I had to go back into the template settings under Appearance > Themes > Customize. Under Layout Options I had to change it to 2 column sidebar on right – it was reset I assume when it upgraded.
But #2 issues was that option was not there. Short version is the functions had updated as well. But my child theme had it’s own function directory. So what was happening was when I went to customize it, it was pulling the OLD menu options which did not include the layout options. I copied the customize.php file from the parent functions directory to the child theme functions directory, then it gave me the option. Set it and everything popped into place.
