    Thanks for the pointer to that FSE theme. I have evaluated several FSE themes and tend not to like those the come with dozens of pre made design patterns cluttering up the system. I use Twenty Twenty Four and Kadence themes for their super light weight for performance and liability. I stay away from from presets and premade stuff. With a set of powerful design blocks, you can build and custom theme and create any design yet stay with minimal code base. It’s all about simplicity and performance.

    Please see my reply to the author above. I want to set body text font size to 1 REM as a relative unit for all other font sizes and spacing elements. For this to happen, you will need to set HTML with base font size in certain pixel unit (around 17px depending on how large you want the body text to be.)

    Actually, I don’t even need more than half of all the nuance settings offered by the free theme. I just need a very basic and simple feature. I have to go along with using this theme for the project. FSE is the future of WP where you customize only what you need and leave out all the noise and bloat.

    Thanks for the timely and positive response, Yani.

    I did have the feeling that there was a default assumption as you explained that many users want to include everything in a migration. Even though I use this plugin often to move sites, every time I interact with the Export screen, it feels unintuitive to check an option to exclude something instead of include – like I have to be extra alert of what I’m doing. Ticking a box is commonly associated with YES, don’t you think?

    So ideally if the Yes/Include approach is used, all the available options would be checked by default. And user would check off the ones they don’t want. And settings the user chooses would stay the same the next time they come back to this screen again which also feels more intuitive this way instead of things reverting back to default. The Advanced Options panel would display all the options instead of hiding them under a dropdown menu.

    Thank you for your attention. Other than that, this is one of the top plugins in its category. Doesn’t mean it can’t be even better. ??

    I’m adding two stars to the review to say thanks for your timely and helpful responses. Though I think file generation (which many other free plugins offer) is a basic fundamental feature and nothing fancy or advanced. The same goes for the ability to set the base unit in pixel. The main reason I want to set the base font size in pixel is so that my body text can be set to 1rem (simple number) and everything else will be relative to this 1rem unit. Again, this should be an essential basic feature.

    Thanks for the tip. I’m not seeing any settings to control CSS. The dashboard looks very grand but the only one setting available is setting to load Google fonts locally. I’m using the free version.

    Thanks for your response. I rate the plugin based on what its capabilities and limitations. I this case, it doesn’t seem to be developer friendly as the way things setup doesn’t make it flexible for customization in CSS. The issue is not a bug, so I don’t know if creating a support ticket is going to solve anything.

    Well said and I agree. One of the main reasons I invest my projects in WP is open source.

    @studiokb

    Who’s talking about folking here that you need to bring your argument to? The title of the post even says “taken over,” and we all know that.

    @authentictech

    You come around making accusations like hijacking and telling an entity they have no business doing whatever with little else to back it up and then question me to lack of evidence? How laughable. What makes your subjective conclusion better and more legit?

    WP Engine started setting up updating of the free plugin sourcing from their server. And they also serve their customers a modified version of WP. That’s right they want to do things their corporate way to make profits and still want to benefit and accessing WP server for free code.

    Now according to you, what Automattic did wrong? Did they just one day decide to take over ACF out of tens of thousands others in the repository because they feel like it or for fun? That would be hilarious.

    The fundamental reason I like WP is its opensource nature. There are plenty of commercial CMS’s out there dong their own things. Keep corporates (that’s what WP Engine is and they even have board members and parent holding company – as corporate as it gets) out of the eco system. I was fine with ACF managed the way it was for years and years until the commercial ‘hijack’ by WP Engine.

    Thank for the response.

    I updated my review and added one more star. The main point my review is based on is that the plugin is bloated with too many things it attempts to do making it more complicated to use than necessary and lacks focus. Also, I’d give a more general name “WP Custom Admin” and drop the word ‘Interface’ which can be misleading because this is not really the main thing for the plug in.

    Thank you

    yes this is a take over done according to a WP’s policy code. No business? It’s in the policy.
    If you read the posts, WP Engine made some bold moves for their corporate interests above site owners and WP community. What more proof do you need?

    Based on information, you do have the option to go with ACF plugin update from WP Engine’s own server (I wouldn’t) OR switch to SCF and stay with the ecosystem we come to trust. You’re forced to take one of the pills, but not having to use SCF if you don’t want to. If I got this correctly.

    If you believe in opensource software and WP ecosystem, the folk should not come as a surprise. The surprise should be what WP Engine was doing with the plugin.

    Thanks for passing my request along. In more detail, I don’t mean having a design block to build the entire menu on a page in the editor. I just need to have a way to implement Quadmenu into FSE template. A competing menu plugin has a simple solution and it works well. When you add a menu block to a template layout, you simply select the specific menu you want to display in that location. The menu admin area can still work as it does now. So I don’t see the need to re-do the entire plugin. Just simply extend it with a method to implement menus on FSE template. In fact I’m already using the other plugin and it’s just what I need.
