The 500 internal server error happens when there is a misconfiguration with the permalink structure and the .htaccess files.

Delete your .htaccess then go to settings>permalinks and set up a custom one or select one of the defaults.

Have you tried aweber? They have a WP integration plugin so you can control the protected pages + it offers you to either ‘user can create their password’ or for you the aweber system to generate a password directly.

Did you try deactivating the plugins before restoring to the previous ‘non pill links’ version? It seems to be an exploit with one of the plugins that you use.

Also check your permalinks structure and delete the .htaccess (WP will generate one anyways)

I completely understand your plight. Few days back my wp site was hacked too but instead of malware, the sql data was wiped out.

The best approach (atleast, what I did to get my site back up) was to upload the backup that I had. If you do not take regular back ups of your site, check with your webhost, they do take back ups of the sites hosted with them at regular intervals.

Install a fresh version of WP. You can re-upload your sql file (i’m assuming it’s gonna be more than 50MB) so use bigdump (google for sql bigdump script) and use it to split your sql files into smaller sizes and you should be good to go.

UPDATE:

Edited the default wp-config-sample with my db details and renamed to wp-config and it works fine.

Sorry.. was in a panic mode.. I had to disable my leech protect in Cpanel and it seems to be working fine now.
