The problem appears to be the redirection plugin. After deactivating it and a 5 minute wait, the website seems to go back to normal. I’ll mark this as resolved for now and find another way to redirect my links.

And now it doesn’t work again. I haven’t done anything to it since it worked, all the information is the same (I can access admin panel, other pages work fine, etc.). Not sure if plugins are the problem or not, but deactivating them doesn’t seem to be the permanent fix. If anyone could help me out on this, I’d appreciate it!

    Thanks in advance.

I deleted a few plugins and now it seems to work fine. They were all deactivated though, not sure why they were giving me problems. Seems to work fine now though.

    Thanks for the help anyway!

I disabled it through the WP admin panel. I thought that might fix my problem as well, but the result seems to be the same. I’m still learning the etiquette of the forums so I apologize.

The person I talked to said they hardly support WordPress let alone .htaccess. The obvious solution here I guess is to just not use yahoo for any sort of web hosting pertaining to wordpress. Any recommendations as to the best web hosting companies out there right now in terms of wordpress compatibility?

I re-uploaded the companys old website online while I’m still having issues. I’m currently on hold with yahoo to find out whether or not they support .htaccess.

Yes. Could the problem be that I am using Yahoo? I’ve read forums that say they do not support .htaccess, but that seems absurd to me and a little outdated. Is this still the case?

Okay. Filezilla says that “not all servers support the ‘show hidden files’ feature and may return incorrect listings if the option is enabled.” I was just wondering how I go about checking if this is the case for me, because I do not see my .htaccess file with all the other files when I have ‘show hidden files’ enabled.

If something goes wrong, will I be able to log back into the Wp-admin dashboard to revert the changes?

Marshall, your first situation is what applies in this case. I can see the home page along with the inner pages. I have the latest version of Filezilla and have “Force Showing Hidden Files” enabled with a checkmark next to it. In my view I have the following in my root folder with no viewable .htaccess file.

    wp-admin (folder)
    wp-content (folder)
    wp-includes (folder)
    homepage-index.php
    index.php
    license.txt
    readme.html
    wp-activate.php
    wp-blog-header.php
    wp-comments-post.php
    wp-config-sample.php
    wp-config.php
    wp-cron.php
    wp-links-opml.php
    wp-load.php
    wp-login.php
    wp-mail.php
    wp-pass.php
    wp-register.php
    wp-settings.php
    wp-signup.php
    wp-trackback.php
    xmlrpc.php

Oh, sorry esmi. Just saw your new post. What if the site is already installed on yahoo? Not sure if that changes anything.

    (@sleekwp)

esmi – just to clarify, because I still don’t see it: I have my old website sitting at “domain.com” and the new one I’m trying to upload sitting at “domain.com/blog”. In this case, the root directory is the “/blog” folder in FileZilla? I don’t know if this part is relevant, but the original website was not made in wordpress.

Marshall – I’m in the process of removing an old website and uploading a new one made on wordpress. A step by step guide I am reading says I need to copy overindex.php and .htaccess file together. I don’t want to skip steps to assure it works, so I’m currently looking for the .htaccess file.

esmi – my permalink settings are set to post name. I hope that answers the question.

xavortm – I’m definitely looking in the root folder, even using your links as reference to make sure. I haven’t found anything to suggest yahoo won’t let me edit them. And the links are helpful! Any extra knowledge helps.

I have enableed hidden files in filezilla but still don’t see the .htaccess file. Does that mean I don’t have one?

It sounds like I should start this process over with FileZilla. I’ve never used it before, so we’ll see how this goes.

    Thank you!
