Thanks — I tried using percentages and floats. It’s not working for me and I don’t know where else to ask these questions except here. ;-(

Does anyone have a sample I can see?

I finally found an example from a template company that has the same set up as what I am trying to accomplish. Here is a link preview https://osc.template-help.com/wordpress_12883/?page_id=6. When you click on the category links it takes you to a separate page of it’s own. And none of the posts are placed on the home page but within it’s own page.

Basically I am trying to set up two different sets of navigation. I have my main page nav bar located in my header and I would like to have another separate set of nav links in my sidebar. I’m trying to figure out how to utilize my categories section to do the same thing as my “pages” section does. But no matter what I do when ever I make a post it obviously appears on my home page when even when I select the category I want it to go to. I only want each post to appear in a particular category/page.

I know this has got to be some simple thing but I’ve been stumped on it for days now and starting to feel bogged down.:-(

Maybe the better solution would be to have two separate nav/pages sections but it doesn’t appear to be possible since the data only calls for one set of page listings.

Thanks but the forums seem to take me in circles regarding this topic. I can’t seem to find the exact answer. ??

How exactly do I exclude a post from being view on my main page but have it posted on a separate page that can be viewed by clicking the category link. I want my category links to act as an actual webpage.

Thanks akbigdog — but how would I begin to change this if the installation has already taken place? Where do I go to make these changes, in my PHP admin?

Sorry — I’m a bit challenged on trying to explain what I am trying to do.

I just want to be able to write a post but not have it land on my home page. In other words make my posts into links and nonetheless pages of their own. So basically I want to use my category links like pages. Because I already have one set for my navigation/pages published I don’t want to extent that section but rather use my categories for additional pages. Is this possible? I’m looking into the whole permalink thing and so far I’m not getting it but I will keep trying.

In the meantime, I’m certainly open to any other suggestions…

    Hi Trent… Thanks for responding.

The permalinks sounds like it might work — I’ll look into it.

Any tips on how to best set that up?

Sorry – disregard the last question. I figured it out with the “absolute” vs “relative” positioning.

In regards to tables I was mostly impling using it within the header file because sometimes it can be challenging using full css to do all the desiging and make the layout compatible in all browsers. I realize css is more flexible but sometimes too flexible. The good news is I understand the major browsers all got together recently and decided in the future they would all follow the same guidelines so the inconsistancy problems would be resolved. But until then I think if you can’t get it to work in all browsers tables in most cases will resolve it. But I do prefer using full css. I love designing the not so normal layouts which makes it all the more challenging. But what would life be without the challenge. ??

Thanks but I just figured it out… I forgot to set the position “absolute” in the css.

Sorry about that but thanks anyway. ??

Ok — I appreciate all the responses. But I’m having difficulty with aligning two objects on the same level using css and maintaining compatability in both IE and Firefox.

Here is the Question I just posted earlier:
How do you align the “list pages” or nav bar with the search bar on the same line using css without distorting the dimensions of your design? I’ve tried using css float right for my search bar and css float left with my navigation inside the header file. And then of course using margin settings to postioning…But I can’t seem to get them working properly in both IE and FireFox? ;-(

    Any Suggestions?

Wow… I was just browsing through some other comments about tables and it seems as though 50% go with it and the other 50% don’t…

I guess my only concern at this point is the whole alignment thing and being able to make different layouts with ease. It seems that tables is easier to manage and allow more flexibility.

Does any one else agree or disagree?

I know I can use what ever I want but I honestly want to use what is best or is this just totally a matter of opinion?

Hey there… Just trying to put my swf file into my WP header and having problems. I see to put the object code within the actual header page — which I did. And I also put the full URL to the flash sorce as the person above mentioned but I still cannot get my flash to work. I just get a big white spot where the flash should be.

What am I doing wrong? ??

Thanks. From what I can see the reference given to the codex may work for what I need…
