this is often due to issues coming from other plugins.

The first step to check if it is a plugin issue is to disable all other plugins and even switch to the default theme as some themes put in plugin functionality even though it is not recommended.

Can you kindly review your star rating as this was an Apache issue?

The support is mostly community driven and they would love a helping hand on converting to responsive on their site. Maybe you should help out?

I hope you had a look at sites https://buddyforms.com/ or https://buddydev.com/ where you can get an idea how flexible BuddyPress is. Even if you want to go cheap on a theme and buy it on Themeforest there are a lot that support it out of the box. There are whole solutions offered at https://www.buddyboss.com and if there is anything with the plugin you want to have more modern then just give them a helping hand or hire a dev to do it as you already git the plugin free.

maybe you should attend a BuddyCamp.

I have been there and met some of the developers and also work with BuddyPress and many related plugins. There are rarely problems. And if you need something that is not provided out of the box there is always the possibility to get it developed and hand it over to BP to let them implement it.
