This happened to me as well. I noticed the slideshow had disappeared from my homepage and when I logged in I saw that the widget was gone.
I’m not sure why, but a few of my sites automatically updated to version 2.9.0 and the rest stayed at version 2.8.4 (with the notification that a new update was available). The sites that still have version 2.8.4 in place still have the widget so I don’t want to update the plugin on those.
