well, i modified my config to enable error display and logging, restarted the web server, and now themes work. so it was nothing. thank you for your response.

nevermind. i just reinstalled it until it worked.

oh, also tried resetting to default theme, turning off all plugins and turning them on one at a time.

this does not seem to have done anything. it actually says Broken Website. I think i have to reinstall wordpress. i’ll do that tonite. Please help out by crossing your fingers, sticking out your tongue to the right, and praying to the IT gods that everything goes well.
