In reply to: How to eliminate Spam BotsUnder “Options/Discussions,” I’m using the new “Comment Blacklist” for tigerspice and a couple of porn sites. I love it – spam from those sites were instantly nuked, and I never see it anymore.

In reply to: Trackbacks broken in 1.5?I put in Ryan’s fix and trackbacked the tamba2 link above and it works fine. It doesn’t appear on the site since it’s moderated, so you have to login and view comments to see it. Login credentials are supplied on the tamba2 website.

In reply to: Trackbacks broken in 1.5?By “With the latest files,” where can I pick up the rest of them? I headed over to where the nightlies use to be, but I don’t know where these “latest files” are kept.

In reply to: Trackbacks broken in 1.5?Tested it; trackbacks don’t appear on the target site.
I’m not php-savvy enough to fix it; all I can do is wait for a fix. I know this was a thorn after 1.2 and trackbacks were broken.

In reply to: 1.2.1 -> 1.2.2 DiffsI’ll toss my 2 cents in – I only do minor modifications to WordPress, you know, to fix trackbacks and prevent spam, that sort of thing. I have no idea where you get this “diff” program, but the list of changed files above is immensely helpful.

In reply to: WP 1.2.1: Formatting borked againAlphaoide – ah, so you were “test”. I wondered what that was all about.
I’m hoping they track this down for 1.3. I’m using 1.2.1, and approximately once a day I have to reset my options to remove the “www” that keeps creeping back in there.
Podz suggestion will work if you can’t login. The symptoms seem to vary from host to host; when I was on GoDaddy.com, I’d often have trouble logging in (though I was redirected to wp-smilies\wp-smilies\wp-smilies instead). I switched to blogs-about.com and I get a less severe set of symptoms. I simply go to the option page and remove the “www.”
Accessing my blog using https://www.chasingthewind.net seems to cause the problem more often; going to chasingthewind.net keeps my blog running longer without having to fix that “www” in the options.Forum: Fixing WordPress

In reply to: how to block comment spammerI renamed the wp-comments-post.php, that stopped it completely.
Banning the i.p. doesn’t work, he’s changing it after every post.Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: how to block comment spammerYeah, there are lots of posts on this guy. I bet I’ve deleted 100 of his attempts in the last 24 hours. Not one of them has made it to the front page, but it’s a pain having to delete them.

In reply to: Asking for User NameCheck your SiteUrl and WordPress URL under “Options.” If SiteURL has “www” at the beginning of the address, remove it. When the two URL’s don’t match, the cookies get munged up.
If I log into my site at https://www.chasingthewind.net/wp-login.php , the “www” gets inserted into the SiteURL. Cookies then get munged for everyone. Redirecting all of them to the login screen is one symptom.
I have to make sure I go to https://chasingthewind.net/wp-login.php instead to keep from screwing up the SiteURL.Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: how to block spam comments (from Online poker)It’s still a bother to delete 30 comments from Moderation.

In reply to: how to block spam comments (from Online poker)Online-poker turned it up a notch. I added “poker” to my list of moderated words. When he was posting 1 – 2 spams a day, that worked well.
Now “online-poker” is posting 25 an hour. None of them get displayed because of the word “poker”, but my moderation panel is completely filled with these “awaiting moderation”. We’re talking 200 since last night.Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Comment & ‘Edit This’ Cookies vs. FirefoxThe mosquito captures how to reproduce it; go to your https://www.myblog.com/wp-login.php and login. Then view your site. Presto, your site URL now contains a “www” even if it wasn’t there before. That breaks all the cookies.
It’s listed a “minor” on the mosquito, but this bug breaks skins, keeps users from posting, displays a nul css file, removes the edit button, floods your screen with redirect?=wp-smilies and more.
