Other questions – As I try to figure out how to put photos into that empty rectangular box alongside my articles, I clicked on the “plug-ins” app on the left side of my dashboard page. It took me to the “Featured Content Gallery” section. I’ve used it in the past to have the photos associated with each article rotating on my homepage. But, I read this morning on the plug-in page for Featured Content Gallery, the following information:

IS THIS AN IMPORTANT PIECE OF INFORMATION? ARE THERE ALTERNATIVE PLUGINS FOR A FEATURED CONTENT GALLERY FOR MY HOMEPAGE?
Featured Content Gallery creates an automated, fully customizable rotating image gallery anywhere within your WordPress site. Choose your images and display categories, pages or posts with custom overlay text and a thumbnail carousel. Custom options include gallery size, color, style and more. My website “theme” is called Playmaker 2, if that helps. Thanks.
I tried downloading the Live Chat plug-in that says it has 30,000 users but that didn’t download or it did, but I don’t know how to take the next step to speak to someone live. There was no direction provided nor was there a notification saying I had downloaded the plug-in and “here’s what to do next.”
The site is called sportsreporters.com

In reply to: "Add new" button is not functioning, cannot post articlesHi Tara,
Thanks for responding and my apologies for not getting back to you, sooner. I am the least “tech” type on earth, so much of what you suggested above is beyond my comprehension. I did go to the Plug-ins section on WordPress and deactivated most, if not all of them. I wasn’t sure what I was looking for, though. Was I supposed to deactivate them and then, go click on “Add New” while they were still deactivated? Also, is there a specific plug-in that relates directly to the “Add New” link?
You wrote, “switching to the unedited default, core-bundled Theme (such as Twenty Fourteen) for a moment using the WP dashboard to rule out any theme-specific issue.” My apologies but I don’t have a clue what any of this means or how to follow up on it.
You then wrote, ” resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems (because the hooks remain unless plugins completely removed or some plugins stick around in cached files. So by renaming the folder, you break them and force them inactive).” Again, my apologies for my lack of knowledge but I don’t know what any of this means or how to follow up on it.
Can you help an untechnical layperson (I’m just a writer, wish I knew tech better) with this stuff?
Scott
