In reply to: [UpdraftPlus: WP Backup & Migration Plugin] Slowed down site during backupThanks Bryle. Very interesting.
Since our audience is in the US, it might be best to stick with servers in the US.
Any tips on choosing a shared host that doesn’t overload their servers with too many sites? It seems better than a VPS server for our needs.- This reply was modified 3 years ago by spost.

In reply to: [Contextual Related Posts] Expected post not showing# of results found: Is that the # under the “rows” column? if yes, it’s displaying “1”
I think I did phpMyAdmin correctly – it seems to display the same post as is being displayed on the front end.
Yes these are posts.
Yes the post falls in both 10 and 35 category terms.Forum: Plugins
In reply to: [UpdraftPlus: WP Backup & Migration Plugin] Slowed down site during backupThank you Bryle! I read the article and it helped me understand better.
I decreased the zip size to 100MB – it was 400MB.
My biggest takeaway is that incremental backups and changing the start time are more bandaid fixes but since my site is likely not seeing much traffic at the current times of backup and it still has to perform the backup, the server might be the biggest problem.
Can you recommend some host options?
I somewhat understand server metrics like processors, I/O, memory but I find that I struggle with figuring out which host is actually good and which are just good at marketing.Forum: Plugins

In reply to: [Contextual Related Posts] Related posts not showing on a postHi Ajay,
Thank you for the tip. I must have forgotten how the options work (maybe they changed lately). I thought by default, the posts were compared only by taxonomies (and this could be specified by “Only from same” setting). But I didn’t realize that actually the default behavior is to compare by titles. I expanded the comparison to content and posts are showing up.Could you explain the “include_cat_ids” attribute? I was looking at your shortcode, especially the “include_cat_ids” attribute. Is the list treated as AND or OR? For example, if I have multiple ids listed, will it only return posts if they have all ids or only 1 of the listed ids?

In reply to: [W3 Total Cache] Serve non-cached page to GoogleBot crawlerI would prefer to add a directive to W3TC that causes search agents from Google, Yahoo, etc to be served a non-cached HTML. Is that what you say will be allowed next release?

In reply to: [Relevanssi - A Better Search] Excluded categories showingHi Mikko,
I was working on this today and have a few notes:I wanted to see if your comment was true:
It’s possible something is overriding the category exclusion. If you have taxonomy parameters for the search, the taxonomy settings from the search settings page can be overridden.
I saw this in the URL:
https://socratespost.com/?s=test-optional+world&et_pb_searchform_submit=et_search_proccess&et_pb_search_cat=18%2C1&et_pb_include_posts=yesThis part stood out: et_pb_search_cat=18%2C1
When I delete the that part of the URL, it seems to go away. As you might imagine, I’m using a Divi theme, particularly Extra in this case. Do you have any further guidance on what I could track down next? I looked in my functions.php and search.php files but I cannot figure out how that portion of the URL is populated nor do I know how to figure out what “search_cat” corresponds to that value.
Thank you!

In reply to: [Relevanssi - A Better Search] exclude categories checkboxes not stickingHi Mikko,
Github might be a bit too technical for me. As long as it saves the setting without saving the checkbox state, I can live with it until the next release comes out! Thanks for getting it so quick!

In reply to: [User Activity Log] Illegal string offset ‘category’ Line 810Thank you. It looks solved (on the live site) but you were in my staging site. How were you able to solve it such that it also appears solved on my live site?

In reply to: [User Activity Log] Illegal string offset ‘category’ Line 810Ok I am in the Slack but I searched your support docs and couldn’t figure out what to do next. I also searched the plugin in slack, i searched the channels for your plugin name… The URL that you sent me is generic instructions on how to join the Slack BUT NOT how to get help from your team. In fact, the URL said that the slack IS NOT for help with plugins and they refer readers back to the plugin forums. It’s not obvious what I’m supposed to do in order to get help.
Please be more detailed with your description of how to get help. As I said, I’ve never used slack before…

In reply to: [Relevanssi - A Better Search] Cannot activate plugin anymore – fatal errorOk I’ll do that. – I’m somehow not getting your responses to my email address despite checking the box – sorry for not responding sooner though!
Is there a way to export my settings? I don’t want to lose all of them by deleting and having to reset everything.

In reply to: [User Activity Log] Illegal string offset ‘category’ Line 810Sure. I’m not sure how slack works. Can you give me a quick bit of info how to do this? is there a private link somewhere? Do i have to join?

In reply to: [Relevanssi - A Better Search] Cannot activate plugin anymore – fatal errorI don’t think I fully understand what you’re saying nor do I understand if there are any possible solutions. Are you saying that the update to your plugin was somehow corrupt OR update to WordPress? and that somehow that file was erased after the update to your plugin? If yes, do you think I should try to update to 4.8.2? Or should I try to repair WordPress? A bit confused.
