Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Posts cutting offIf it were there it would be in the loop section, which begins with
<?php if (have_posts()) : ?> <?php while (have_posts()) : the_post(); ?>
Which theme is this? Have you checked for theme options under Appearance in the admin menu?

In reply to: Posts cutting offOh, sorry. single.php Should not show the_excerpt (my mistake), it should show the_content. the_excerpt would probably be in the loop code for index.php, or home.php if your theme has a file by that name.

In reply to: Frontpage with only widgetsYou would have to write your own template for the home page. If you have selected “a static page” in Settings > Reading you would have to name the template file front-page.php and add it to your theme files. If “Front page displays” is set to “Your latest posts” you could name the template home.php.

In reply to: Answer to a question on here causes website to crashWell excuse me for trying to help. You said your site would “be down for several hours” and there is no reason for that to happen.

In reply to: Posts cutting offHave you recently updated the theme version or modified the theme? Also, depending on the theme it may be a theme option under the Appearance menu. Obviously it’s being caused by the theme though. If you have never modified the theme you can back it up, delete it, and then upload a fresh copy. Single posts are usually displayed by the single.php template. You can check that to see if it is set to display the_content or the_excerpt.

In reply to: Answer to a question on here causes website to crashYou should always make backups of your files before you change them.
It’s possible that your host has a backup that they can easily restore.
If this is the first time you have modified your theme you can back it up, then switch themes and then delete the theme you were using and upload a fresh copy of it, then switch back to it.

In reply to: Posts cutting offTry switching themes and see if it still happens.

In reply to: Moving WordPress. Please help!p.s. It’s a good idea (as always) to back everything up first. If you run into any trouble, don’t panic and don’t try everything under the sun w/o asking for advice. It can always be fixed but the fewer things that have been changed, the easier it will be to diagnose and repair.

In reply to: Moving WordPress. Please help! The way I like to do it is (assuming it’s not a multi-site installation)…
1) Change the URLs in Settings > General to remove the /wordpress (or whatever the subfolder name is). After you do this your site will appear to be broken.
2) Move all of the WordPress files and folders from the subfolder to the root folder. After that your site should resolve again.
3) Check your Settings > Media and any plugins that save files to the server (e.g. Google XML Sitemap, any plugins that back up your database, etc.) to make sure that the URLs specified are correct.
4) You may have to update the URLs to the images in your pages and posts. An easy way to do it is with the Search And Replace plugin.
IIRC that’s about it.
Are you saying that in the Memoir theme there is a way to enable/disable the images? I can’t comment on that because it is not a free theme and I don’t own a copy of it. I assume it works fine in the Twenty Eleven theme.
You would have to ask at https://www.elegantthemes.com/forum/
You can’t get support for paid themes here.
I’m not familiar with that theme. Is search.php set to show the_excerpt in that theme?
Glad to hear it works. Please mark the thread resolved so others who have the same question may benefit.
@catherinewhit you should not have to worry about that. Images are stripped from excerpts in all themes unless you specify an image tag in the Excerpt dialog box like I mentioned.
Atahualpa has a “Don’t strip these tags” option in the excerpts configuration.
