I was poking around some other posts about how Firefox is crashing when using the WP admin functions and a post by GimliGlider suggested to disable Google Gears (a Firefox add-on), which is accessed by going to Firefox Tools >>> Add-Ons.

I just tried it and while the posters in that thread didn’t mention any problems with the Flash Broswer, the problem is now gone on my end. Flash uploader works fine now. See if that fix works for you.

I did a post that included using the flash uploader to set up this past Thursday morning and it worked fine. This morning I upgraded to Vista Service Pack 2 and Firefox crashes when I try to access the flash uploaded.

Maybe something else is going on, I can’t say, but the last time I know it worked for sure was before I installed the service pack.

For what it’s worth, accessing the flash uploader works fine in Windows Internet Explorer.

I restored yesterday’s database (what’s the worst that could happen) and everything is back. Thanks!

The images are there and the code looks like its there. Sometimes when I visit the site, there will be snow briefly, for a second or two, then it stops. Flurries. Strange.

So I decide to try it in a different browser – IE Explorer, rather than my usual Firefox.

I tried to upload an image and it just held up – no crunching. So I close the box. Then, I check the media files that have been uploaded and the image is indeed there!

Then I switch back to Firefox and try and upload a pic. Now, everything works fine.

Well, thinking about it conceptually, I think it’s possible that though one has to be logged in to access the image uploader, for some reason after actually uploading it goes to access the image (to give the option of adding details and inserting into the post) and finds that it can’t, so it asks the user to login.

So why does it consider one to not be logged in when clearly they are logged in?

Just thinking out loud.

Thanks for posting. I disabled all the plugins and disabled javascript on my Firefox options, and the problem persists.
