In reply to: [404 to 301 - Redirect, Log and Notify 404 Errors] PHP Error 'empty needle'nope, didn’t touch the field. Just updated the plugin.
The exact same error shows up on all the sites where I use your plugin, BTW.
thx for taking this serious. I’m clear you did not delete data on purpose ?? all well.
same here!
I just came across this plugin this morning and installed it on a test site. Ended up getting tons of 404 notifications, incl. the one noted above and “/wp-admin/undefined”
If I would not have set my own IP on a whitelist, I would have locked myself out.
I love the idea of the plugin (exactly what I was looking for), just now concerned about the 404s.
If I may jump in here … This is one of several reasons why I use https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/wp-simple-firewall/ in conjunction with WordFence. It offers that functionality and lots more. And from what I can tell, the two plugins work along well together and don’t get in each others way …
Thanks for the suggestion and the effort! Very much appreciated.
Will definitely have a look at all this.
In an ideal world, I guess there would be a coexistence of plugins, where one (WordFence) would be the master and integrate others (e.g., 404 plugins) and handover the event to any configured plugin… but I guess that’s one thing WordPress is not designed to do, or leaves up to the plugin dev community…
Thanks again for your efforts! You rock!
Hi Joel,
Sure, I do know that option, but I like to be informed so I can catch the bad boys quickly…
Thanks for the update … I’ll wait patiently … ??
Hi Matt – Thanks for the detailed response. Since 404 errors is one of those issues every admin and web designer needs to take care of (to keep Google et al. happy – and the clients), I wonder how else a custom 404 page could be integrated via WordFence if not via a plugin.
One thing I learned over the many years doing this, is to NOT rely on uncertainties, and while the settings you suggest are great, they leave quite some room for uncertain behavior. So I am looking for a way to make this solid and work reliably (peace of mind).
What I like about the 404 plugin is its functionality:
1) custom 404 page
2) notifications (for immediate reaction)
3) log of all 404 events in a db table, i.e., can be extracted and used for analysisI did not see any way that can be done with WordFence – is there?
well done!!! Thx, works like a charm ??
cool ?? thx

In reply to: [Hotspots Analytics] SQL errors in logHi Daniel,
Thanks for the quick response … They showed up in the PHP error log, and I am using a plugin to show the contents of that log in the Admin dashboard.
Yes, the plugin was activated, after seeing those errors however, I deactivated it … sounds like I can activate it again.
Is there any way to verify the plugin working (and not messing with my db) other than waiting for the first run to complete?
Thanks
Stefan
Problem solved, and I have to admit that the source was sitting in front of the screen.
My understanding was that the message was referring to the field “List of comma separated IP addresses to ignore”, and I did not see that there is in fact another field called “Whitelisted IP addresses that bypass all rules” (haven’t quite figured out the difference though).
That other field did in fact contain a ‘0’ which is in fact not a valid IP address. No idea how that ‘0’ got in there, but that’s resolved now.
Thanks again, and sorry for the noise.
Thanks @wfmattr (and @paul) – The first steps did not make any difference. And yes, I disabled the plugin, not only the service.
It’s late here and I will do the disable-game tomorrow, and will update here.
Have to say though that I am concerned that disabling won’t make any difference, since the data (any plugin options) are in the DB already. So if some plugin has f’d up my setup, disabling most likely won’t do anything … I may have to go back to a backup and rebuild.
@paul: Yes, always the latest grates ?? Thanks for jumping in here.
Will keep you posted.
ADDITIONAL INFO:
I exported all settings, reset to default and then imported the settings again.
The message disappeared when running with default settings (well, it’s all switched off) and re-appeared as soon as I had imported the previous settings.
Thx, seems to work now. At least no ACCESS DENIED anymore.
Thx for quick response and keeping us in the loop.
Cheers

still Access Denied. I’ve downloaded the zip file you mentioned and uploaded via FTP.
