In reply to: <!–more–> tag cuts off post in RSS FeedsWhilst I haven’t tested DualFeeds in WordPress 2.3, I will try to do so in the near future.
For the record, DualFeeds gives you two ‘feeds’: a full post feed (with the <!–more–> tag stripped) AND a summary feed (created from the excerpt, or the <!–more–> tag, or cut off after a user definable number of characters).
I may be a bit biased here, but personally I think WordPress should offer this functionality by default, so that user can offer their readers both full post and summary feeds and the readers can choose what suits them.

In reply to: www………co.uk/feed/ comes up with just code in IENo offence, but you’re not getting this. The code is what the rss feed really looks like (as I said above). You aren’t supposed to look at in a browser, you’re supposed to look at it in a feedreader (like Google Reader).
As it happens, newer browsers such as Firefox 2.0 and IE7 (but NOT IE6) have built in feed viewers so that you see a feedreader-like view instead of the code.
IE6 doesn’t have this, so you see the feed itself. The feed is exactly the same in both cases. Hope this make sense.

In reply to: RSS Feed – Turn Off – AccessOkay – for me that seemed to kill the feeds – not sure why yours is more resilient! But as long as you’ve sorted it out now.

In reply to: WP2.2 RSS only shows summary, wrong dateActually, he said he didn’t use the more tag. For the record, if it is the more tag causing the problem, you can use my DualFeeds plugin, as well as the one mentioned above (DualFeeds gives you both Full Text and Summary Feeds).
As it happens, I may have an answer for you. I’ve checked https://pricklepear.com/rss and it’s definitely only the summary, but if you try https://pricklepear.com/feed (ie feed instead of rss), then you get the full post in the feed. You also get the full post if you use rss2 instead of rss.
Not sure why, without spending time to look at it, but I assume that WordPress treats rss feeds like this (most people use rss2 feeds these days, even though they don’t know it). I hope that helps you.

Thanks, that fixed it for me..Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: RSS Not Showing Full TextThere should be no need to edit the files. Just use a plugin like the original Full Text Feed plugin which strips the more tag, or my DualFeeds plugin, which does the same, except it also creates a summary feed as well as the full text one.

In reply to: Feed Showing SummaryLooks like the full text to me. What are you using to look at it? If you are using Firefox (or Safari or even IE7 I think), then you aren’t seeing the real feed – these will only show you the summary. You have to View Source (Ctrl + U in Firefox) to see what’s really in the feed.

In reply to: RSS Feed – Turn Off – Accessumm, try deleting all three files mentioned by whooami above. That kills my feed. Note, once you do this, you may need to clear your browser cache to see the change (this only applies if you are viewing the feed through a browser).

In reply to: Full text and summary rss feedsI’ve written a plugin called DualFeeds, which does EXACTLY this – it allows you to offer your readers both a full post feed and a summary feed so your subscribers can choose the format that suits them.
The full post format strips the more tag, so it really is the full post. The summary format uses the excerpt if one exists, the more tag if it exists, or cuts the post after a userdefinable number of characters. Works with all feeds (ie category feeds, etc, not just the main site feed).
Note, by default, the normal feed is the full text feed and the additional one is the summary, but you can switch this if you want.

In reply to: RSS Won’t Publish Full FeedAre any other settings not working?
When you click Update Options, does the “! Options Saved” message come up? If so, the new value should have been put into the db.
I guess the next thing to do would be to check the db. Do you have access to it (ie through CPanel’s and phpMyAdmin)
If so, have a look at the wp_options table and find the rss_use_excerpt row. If the option_value is 0, then it’s set to full post, if it’s 1 then it’s set to summary.
I just noticed another field called option_can_override. Its set to Y for me. I changed it to N, to see if that prevented the parameter from updating, but it had no effect.

In reply to: Still stuck with summaries in my feedsCould it be a feedburner setting? Might be worth trying..

In reply to: RSS lengthUmm, guys… Firefox’s built in RSS viewer only shows you the summary. That’s the way Firefox works…
If you view the page source in Firefox, you’ll see it’s all really there, just not being shown by Firefox… I’m pretty confident about this from your other comment (ie it shows up in Google Reader).
Not sure about Safari, but I’m guessing its the same.
So, the feed is fine – it’s just the software you are using to look at it.

In reply to: RSS Won’t Publish Full FeedAre you saying that you the parameter actually changes back to summary in the option screen? If so, I’m not sure what would be causing that, sorry.
If you mean the parameter changes but you still only get the summary in the feed, then maybe it is the more tag. If you use the more tag in your posts (so only everything up to the more tag shows on your front page), your feeds will chop entries at the same point.
If the more tag is the problem, there are plugins which can fix this, including one I wrote called DualFeeds. It actually gives you full post feed and a summary feed (so the users can make their own choice), but the default one is the full post feed.

In reply to: www………co.uk/feed/ comes up with just code in IEThat’s normal – that’s what a RSS feed looks like.
Users are supposed to view it through a feed reader, like Google Reader, SharpReader, Thunderbird, etc. The feed reader formats the output for humans to read it.
It just so happens that one of the neat features of Firefox is that it has a built in feed reader. I guess IE7 does too, but I don’t use it…
