Stvwlf: Well, tried to add the code (to add links) you gave me to the sidebar by going to the WP widgets and adding to text. You seemed to be saying that it wss that easy. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks. Just some clarification since some of this is beyond my experience:

    1. What do I do with the link code you supplied? Will this allow links to be placed in the sidebar? How do I do add links after using that code?

    2. Just want to link from WP blog to my website and vice versa (simple matter that is confusing me in the midst of the more sophisticated configuration)..?

    3. What’s the reason for All In One SEO Plugin?

So, sounds like all plugins need to be uploaded. Do you have an opinion of whether Contact Form 7 or Aweber is better. Just want a simple contact form with some capture potential.

    4. What about the Tags?

    Thanks again.

    Hi Again:

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply. I’ll see where the search leads me and am sure we’ll be in touch again wth more questions! At some point maybe I’ll be able to help others too.

    Thank you, stvwlf.

The Contact form is contact Form 7. I just don’t know where to find code if necessary or where to paste it. Having same issue with a Twitter widget. I don’t need to keep uploading to GoDaddy, do I? Speaking of which, I tried to upload a background picture to my Home page under w-content-themes and that didn’t work…??

Is WordPress for Dummies a possible solution for answers? Thanks for all your help. – Steve

Hi: Isn’t the theme atahualpa widget ready? It yalks about having widgets. I thought all the new themes were. Also: Yes, I am referring to a Contact Form. I did download it on WP but can’t find it on the site after activating. This is why I am thinking that code is necessary on the host site???. Hope not.

    stvwlf:

Wld appreciate your help. I tried using Automatic widget loader on WP and don’t see them anywhere after I activate. Suspect that I need to find and plug some code in somewhere…???

Also, any clues on how to create a contact section on my Home Page. Do I need to FTP upload the contact form and photo to my host (through Godaddy)?

Can’t be this complicated, can it? As you see, I am totally lost. Help!

Figured it out. Your last instructions that included using an FTP server made me realize that the WP instructions with its automatic upload is for designers of themes. Therefore it was rejecting the existing theme I was tryimg to upload as redundant and asking me to change the title in style.css (not necessary for what I was doing). Hope this thread helps others. Thanks for your assistance.

Also, the WP upload function doesn’t mention the need for an FTP client (should I use Filezilla?) and seems to not need the file unzipped. Again, see why it’s confusing? Thanx.

Samboll: I reinstalled WP and tried to upload the theme (atahualpa) through WP. Also tried another theme. Here is the fault message. Now what?

There is already a theme called ‘gear’ by a different author. Please change the name of your theme in style.css and upload it again.

I have no idea how to do this! Please advise.

I’ll try again. Thanks. I found the way to upload from WordPress but it is saying that I need to change the title (style.css…??) because it is already there. I think I may delete wp and start over. What about the background photo question? Thanks again.

Hoping for a reply. I tried to follow the video tutorial but it makes some assumptions of familiarity with this that I (and GoDaddy) don’t have. Do I need to use Filezilla to upload? Do I need to place the new file into one of the existing WP files (Classic, Default, SEO-Basic)? I seem to have put it in SEO-Basic inadvertently. Does this interfere? Obviously need help!

I guess this direction makes sense to you, but when I moved my theme to what was the SEO Basics, it still was unclear what to do next and didn’t work. Can you please just walk me through the process in the simplest 1-2-3 terms?

PS: By Wallpaper, I am imagining a washed out photo as background over which we can post.

Thank you very much, Samboll. I really appreciate your fast reply and help. I am new to WordPress and it’s a bit confusing compared to Blogger! I will look through your links when I return to my desk this afternoon. Meanwhile, I did talk with GoDaddy (host) and we tried to upload a Theme. When we got to which folder to put it in, they couldn’t help (don’t support WordPress). So I got to Templates then Classic, Default and I think the third option was SEO Basics (or something similar) and I stopped because we didn’t know what folder to put it in. Am I going in the right direction? Will they link you supplied direct me?

Re: background clarification, I thought I’d add a photo as my wallpaper, if you will. ??
