In reply to: [Kadence] Can’t remove bad settingsOh, I really didn’t know there was a reset button. After you just told me, I went looking for it. Took a while to figure out it is under the import/export section of the customize screen. Wish I had known that when I was so frustrated! Thanks for your help.

In reply to: [Kadence] Can’t remove bad settingsDarn, Ben, I’m really sorry for my rant, which was in the middle of the night and I was tired and frustrated. I ended up blowing up my database by deleting all entries that had kadence in them. I knew I’d lose work I’d done on it already, but I copied and pasted stuff to a Word file and came back and rebuilt it after reinstalling the theme and the starter pack. I was methodical when I came back to it and only changed colors in the transparent header settings, and now it is working fine. If there was a way I could have gone back to default settings without blowing up the database, that would have been good. Maybe reinstalling the starter pack would have reset the settings?
Thanks for your kind reply.

In reply to: [Kadence] Can’t change header color anymoreI’m so sorry. It was late at night and I was very frustrated. Sorry for the anger and thank you for your kind response.
I ended up deleting every entry in the database that had “kadence” in the record. That basically blew up the site, but I hadn’t created much content yet anyway. I uninstalled and reinstalled the theme, installed the starter pack with content, and then it worked again. I’m ok now. In the end, I realize maybe a plugin, perhaps jetpack, was interfering with making changes. I had cleared the site cache many times, but I should have also turned off other plugins to try making the changes.
Thanks again
Thanks for the quick reply, Ben. I appreciate what you’ve developed — it’s an amazing set of tools. I’ll hope to see other lightboxes added in the future ?? And yeah, I did reach out to the other plugin creator, too.
Hey, to piggyback on this, I’m finding some minor incompatibility with the plugin I use to give me photoswipe capabilities. I think the swipe is essential for mobile users, so I run the “Lightbox with PhotoSwipe” plugin, and it generally plays well with the Kadence Blocks Advanced Gallery — I just have to keep the Kadence lightbox turned off or else I get two layers of lightboxes. But here’s the problem — you’ve improved your lightbox ability to show captions in the lightbox, which would be great, but it doesn’t tell my photoswipe plugin to include the captions. I can’t just turn of the photoswipe plugin because then your lightbox doesn’t have a swipe function. Can you enable swiping in your lightbox? Maybe you have it in your paid gallery plugin, but I’m talking about the basic Kadence Blocks plugin, which has been awesome so far.
Ben! This is so great! I figured I had some complicated configuration problem, and I’m so glad you found the bug and fixed it so quickly. Thank you very much. It’s working great now. Regarding the broken blocks, I’ll try looking for the error info or using that recovery method if it happens again. Thanks again!

In reply to: Site Gone – back at install.phpHey Whoo — thanks for the post! I was having this same problem, and I’m glad I didn’t do the reinstall routine. After reading your post, I browsed my MySQL database and found that yes, indeed, my options table was corrupt. So were a few other tables. I was able to restore a backup of my database and it works fine now.
But here’s a question — I am running three blogs on this commercially hosted server, and two of them had database corruption this week. Does that mean I’m being hacked?

In reply to: Rewrite rules with two wp installations in one domainSWEEEEEET!!!!!
Otto, you’re a wizard. I appreciate the help. That worked perfectly. Yesterday, I searched and searched and searched and couldn’t find the answer after trying numerous fixes. I appreciate you helping out, and your link to the other thread explained it very well.
Thanks again.

In reply to: Rewrite rules with two wp installations in one domainYes I have different .htaccess files in the root and the subdirectory. The blog in the subdirectory is not using permalinks and does not have rewrite rules enabled. The blog in the subdirectory is behind a username/password screen, so the .htaccess file has these entries (where “xxxx” is a name I deleted here):
AuthType Basic AuthName "xxxx" AuthUserFile "/home/xxxx/.htpasswds/xxxx/passwd" require valid-user

In reply to: My dashboard disappeared!HEY!!!! Cool to get an answer. I was just having this problem, and it’s exactly because I added an index.php to my plugins directory. I did it because I was having some trouble with Akismet and tried hard coding my API key in the plugin file, and I didn’t want someone reading it by browsing the files. I since found out the Akismet problem was a server issue and it’s fixed, so I removed the key from the file.
Anyway, why would putting that file in the plugin folder cause this problem? Does anyone want to fix the code that makes this happen?

In reply to: Akismet stopped working after upgradeWell, the solution was emailing Hostgator support, and they fixed something. I wish I knew what the something was, but evidently it had something to do with a crash I had last weekend, when WP was giving me the blank white page from hell problem. I think they had to restart Apache on Monday for it to work right, and the tech said they did some “further tweaks” last night to fix this problem with Akismet. I’ve asked what those tweaks were, but I’ll wait to see if they answer.

In reply to: Akismet stopped working after upgradeI also noticed that the link to Dashboard from within my wpadmin screens brings up a page with all the menu items and the footer but no content. Its address is different than it was in 2.1.3. The dashboard page in my new installation of 2.2 has an address of wp-admin/admin.php?page=index.php while it used to be wp-admin/index.php. If I manually change the URL to the old way it works, but the news from wordpress section is missing.
Anyway, this other problem makes me wonder if my wp installation is corrupted somehow.

In reply to: Akismet stopped working after upgradeThat version 2.0 from May is what I had. I just replaced it with version 2.0.2 from today’s new version of WP, but that didn’t help either.
