In reply to: [Plugin: Similar Posts] Ignoring a category when matching poststhats not going to work unfortunately. the reason is this:
i have an events site, and label sites by type (art, music, sport etc) and also by price (cheap, expensive).i’d love the plugin to match posts by type (ie. sport), but if i’ve labelled it as cheap, then it will also match it to cheap art, cheap theatre and everything else.
i just need a way to stop it searching the ‘cheap’ category

In reply to: [Plugin: Akismet] No False positivesi’ve fixed my problem a little bit. If you untick the “Automatically discard spam comments on posts older than a month” box, then the spam comments show up.
but if you put a tick in it then they don’t… even if the spam comments are less than a month old. the whole queue remains empty forever.i’m not sure that’s how it’s supposed to work. surely today’s spam should still show up in the queue if you tick the box?

In reply to: [Plugin: Akismet] No False positivesi think there’s a problem with the new update.
there are a few posts on this board reporting the same thing.maybe it doesn’t affect everyone, but i am seeing spam comments apparently getting caught by akismet (because the number on the dashboard is rising every day), but you are given no opportunity to check them. the spam queue is always empty. previously spam comments would appear in the queue so you could check them out.
they don’t appear in my database either, so i can’t even check them there.
makes me think that a load of decent comments are being unnecessarily binned.Forum: Themes and Templates
In reply to: How do you display dates by datehi thanks for the reply, but i’d rather code it into the page.
Forum: Fixing WordPress
In reply to: Glacial speed of 2.7?i had this problem as well. it was almost as if the page was hanging. sometimes i could log in to the admin section okay, and sometimes it would hang. i also got a few blank white screens when trying to install.
the only way i could fix it was to wipe the old wordpress completely and do a completely new install. then it worked perfectly. and the speed is normal now.
i thought it might be a plug-in issue at first, but i have turned them all back on now are they are all okay. (i use akismet, xml-sitemaps, wp-stats, all-in-one-seo, wp-grins)

In reply to: an un blog-like blogi agree with you there so i’ve done it, i’ve removed most of the info for the events and just left it as the excerpt and the headings

In reply to: Tell me what you honestly think.did you design the site with IE?
you might want to check out what it looks like in firefox as well. I use firefox and half of your images seem to be in the wrong place. or maybe they are too wide for the design, and have started overlapping your sidebar.you’ve also got some text overlapping the images, and some other text overlapping other text, rendering it unreadable.

In reply to: Problem with CSS in IEyou might have already worked this out, but it was probably dropping in IE due to the italic text in the ‘latest comments’ box. if italic text spans an entire line then it seems to make the line 3px longer. if you change it to normal text, it will probably work alright. or you can slightly narrow the box which contains the comments, which will work as well.
maybe if you do it that way it will fix your second problem.

In reply to: theme… supposed to look like a tabloid newspapertook on board your comment about the padding, and added a bit more space. it probably was a bit too tight. thanks for that
