  • Just a thought, if Konstantin is there…

Is it possible to disable the carousel permalinks? And if so, would that restore the back button functionality? I’d be happy to try to dig into the code if you could point me in the right direction.

Back button not working on Chrome or Safari on Mac. Even after the X closing button has been clicked you have to click the back button the same number of slides that you’ve viewed before you return to the original page.

I love the carousel, but this one little navigation thing is a real problem for usability. I have several galleries in a portfolio format and users are struggling to get back to the main portfolio page to explore the next gallery.

If someone can point me in the right direction I may try to fix it myself…just not sure where to start.

@beeeerock Really hope they have a look at the back button issue. For websites making significant use of Jetpack Carousel, which in every other respect is excellent, the back button behavior is a real problem for user experience.

Agreed. Maybe not a bug, but certainly a problem for user experience. I just watched my mum enjoy a gallery of about 30 images and then click the back button 31 times to return to the main gallery page!! It didn’t occur to her that she could use the main menu to get there, but then she’s used to the back button working as expected.

    Any fixes?

Just to add a bit more info. The problem only occurs on pages using excerpts (e.g. archives), and (with default settings) only on posts where there are fewer than 55 words text. Since this is a photography website there are frequently posts with very little text.

I’m using a custom ‘excerpt_length’ function to limit excerpts from 55 to 20 words, but on any posts with fewer words than that the problem remains.

It can be partially resolved by deselecting the “Display Share/Save button at the bottom of posts on the front page”, but that’s not an ideal solution as I’d rather have that option for the blog front page.

Technokinetics – your plug-in works perfectly. Have it running on all my WP sites now. Thank you!
